Is Fox news destroying the GOP?

When I follow the money I see that all the networks are owned by corporations
and funded by corporate advertisers.

Explains how Rush Limbaugh can have such a high paycheck and Fox News is killing the rest of the media outlets in ratings.

The guy in the video is correct, there is an extraordinary demand for right wing commentary and news, basic economics show that most of the Media has a serious left-wing bias and Fox News does so well cause they are the only one that goes the other way.


I understood that peanut, I just disagree with his premise that the market is magically non-biased
as well as his implied definition of bias as deviation from the mean rather than deviation from the truth.
A market driven media gives us a media with a pro-market bias is that impossible to grok?

Actually they kinda do, and they don't usually go out and tell people to vote for a particular candidate they can advocate concerning particular issues though.


Mediamatters has crossed the line, and conservative groups have lost their tax exempt status by doing things that mediamatters is currently doing.

Actually his point fits the facts and disproves the notion that most of the media is right wing, in fact based on the information he provided, he has proven once and for all the most of the media has a strong left wing bias, which is why Fox News and Rush Limbaugh are doing so well.

I can see that Fox News is bashed for being conservative in their bias, and that other channels are being bashed for being liberal in their bias. The fact of the matter is that media bias is a given and that media neutrality is impossible as everyone has some sort of bias.

While Fox News has conservative leanings, they also have more liberals on Fox than MSNBC, ABC, NBC, CBS, and CNN have conservatives COMBINED.

So Fox News gives the other side a chance to voice their opinion which is something their competition does not do.

Juan Williams, Bob Beckel, Alan Colmes (semi-retired), Geraldo Rivera, and there are some others that I can't think of their names atm.

The liberal bias of the mainstream media tilts so far left that any outlets not in that political lane, like the Drudge Report and Fox News Channel, look far more conservative than they really are, according to a UCLA professor's new book out next month.

In a crushing body blow to the pushers of the so-called "Fox Effect," which claims the conservative media is dragging the left into the center, UCLA political science professor Tim Groseclose in Left Turn claims that "all" mainstream news outlets have a liberal bias in their reporting that makes even moderate organizations appear out of the mainstream and decidedly right-wing to news consumers who are influenced by the slant. "Fox News is clearly more conservative than ABC, CBS, CNN, NBC and National Public Radio. "Instead, maybe it is centrist, and possibly even left-leaning, while all the others are far left. It's like concluding that six-three is short just because it is short compared to professional basketball players."

What's more, he says, "this point illustrates a common misconception about the Drudge Report. According to my analysis, the Drudge Report is approximately the most fair, balanced, and centrist news outlet in the United States. Yet, the overwhelming majority of media commentators claim that it has a conservative bias. The problem, I believe, is that such commentators mistake relative bias for absolute bias. The only one that I have saw a presence of on Fox News is Rivera and I remember Colmes being forced out but I cannot remember why. I have never heard of the other two, and even though Rivera has a presence its not very much of one.

I do not watch any of those channels. I go on the Internet and read Aljazeera for my news as they actually give significant and good coverage to things outside the USA.

The only talk show I watch is Real Time with Bill Maher who, by the way, almost always has at least one, and usually more than one, conservative, including the Andrew Breitbart of the "Bigjournalism.com" that you linked to, as well as people of most other political and philosophical attitudes, on every show. He lets them voice their opinions, even though he is completely honest about his political beliefs, which seem to me to be somewhere in between center and far left.

By the way, could you perchance link to this UCLA professor, as you have apparently forgot to name him?

Geraldo has his own show, Juan Williams and Bob Beckel alternate back and forth on the show "The Five", since Glenn Beck is starting his own television company (and he still works at Fox News).

Alan Colmes, still works at Fox News as does semi-retired Brit Hume.

Juan Williams has also been an alternate host for the O'Reilly Factor when Bill O'Reilly has the night off.

Hannity has on liberals quite a bit, furthermore if there were liberals that could draw the ratings that Hannity is getting, there probably would be, however since just about every other media outlet is almost exclusively liberals, Fox gets more viewers with Conservative commentators.

It should be remembered, Geraldo Rivera had once had a legitimate career in news, until he became a tabloid talk show clown. I doubt that he has risen much above the cesspool of tabloid journalism he had sunk himself into. In fact, I'm pretty sure that was why Fox hired him in the first place, when he had offered them his services during the Iraq war.
I'm sorry, but as he had broken the heart of Kurt Vonnegut's daughter by cheating on her, it's hard for me to like that slimy little dick.
And yes, the late Kurt Vonnegut is one of my favorite authors. And a hell of a lot better man than Rivera ever was.

Well this may also be the issue with other news organizations. The least Fox News can do is drop the misleading "Fair and Balanced" logo. I will reiterate that media neutrality is nigh impossible to achieve but some organizations have come close, namely C-SPAN.

Watching the news output of C-SPAN is like watching paint dry. But the lectures are rather good.
