uhhuh.

Companies usually settle out of court because they don't want the publicity, and the legal fees, bad press, etc. actually make it cost more to fight the suit than it does to simply settle it.

Seriously, considering how murky the politico story was, and the lack of details, it actually looks more like a hit piece, similar to the incident in 2008 where New York Times ended up getting sued by the woman that they claimed was having an affair with Senator John McCain.

So what remains to be seen is whether any women who have not been bought off will come forward to corroborate on the record.

I don't know. The whole story is getting pretty stinky as time rolls on. Conflicting stories, no firm denial. First it's 2 women, now he claims it's 1. No recollection of a settlement, but suddenly now he remembers. It seems to be taking the same course as most politician sex scandals do and I think the outcome here will be similar as well.

It's understandable that conservatives would be the first to jump to his defense. I didn't believe Weiner was guilty when that story first broke. But most often, in cases like this, where there's smoke, there's fire. Left, right, black, white - it doesn't matter. We all screw up at one time or another. I don't think this story by itself will make or break his campaign whether he's guilty or innocent. 9-9-9 can ruin his chances all by itself.

Which they probably will even if the facts support Herman Cain, because the Obama campaign, the left wing drive-by media, and possibly even one or more of the other primary candidates with money would pay far more than the settlement.

From what information I know about the settlement, it was an awfully low sum for both cases which occurred years apart. That seems to suggest that the company was pretty confident that they would win if it went to court and there was nothing to these allegations.

And, of course, powerful men with money never get accused of sexual harrassment, so it must be true.

Aha, so you play a part in discrediting a claim that you haven't falsified and for which there is evidence!

Fantastic job!

I'm not going to bother debunking every witch hunt someone feels like starting.

Witch hunts don't tend to have evidence. The assault against Assange is a witch hunt that is based on emotion and has been proven to have been based on the claims of a woman who has been proven to be interested in revenge over anything else. Cain's little escapade isn't based on women who have been shown to be liars at all.

They haven't been shown to be anything; they won't come forward! And, there are no specific allegations.

What you mean sexual harassment isn't specific enough for you? Also who wants to come forward? Furthermore cain apparently called the thing a witch hunt himself and said he was falsely accused.

Why the payouts? Why did he go into denial in another thred example in news forum? Why?

Speaking of women who have not "been shown to be liars", as you worded it, did you listen to the clip in my last post? Can you show her to be a liar? She worked with Cain very closely, so she knew him very well. Explain to me why she is not to be believed, if, in your view, these annonymous women who refuse to get specific are to be believed.

For the simple reason that she isn't every woman on the planet.

I would also point out this stunt has been pulled by the left at least three times in the last 5 years.

John McCain, Clarence Thomas, and now Herman Cain.

From that track record, it's rather unlikely this is true.

It's unproven because... because... Because you say so. It is up in the air right now. But for now I have more reason to suspect cain than not suspect cain.

The Clarence Thomas thing was 20 years ago. Almost exactly 20 years ago.

Where have you been?

Democrats tried to pull it up again here within to try to get grounds to get him kicked off the Supreme Court so Obama can appoint someone that will swing the court to the hard left, cause they know as it stands now Obamacare is likely going to be ruled unconstitutional in a 5 to 4 decision.

Oh btw, the thing they are trying to get Herman Cain to recall is 15 to 20 year ago, do you remember everything that has happened 15 to 20 years ago?

I generally tend to think that I'm a pretty well informed lefty, and no, i don't recall any attempt to get him removed. Frankly it sounds pretty implausible that they would dredge up something that didn't prevent him from being installed in the first place in the belief that it constitutes high crimes and misdemeanors.

So, [Citation Needed]. Or stop bogarting whatever you are smoking. Sure we hate the guy, but mostly because he doesn't even put any spirit into being an offensively conservative justice - he just goes with the flow. What the hell good is he?

Firstly, he's 65. When my dad was 65, his memories of details of his life weren't always that good either. He would make a specific claim with confidence, but then correct himself once he recalled a little better. He wasn't deceiving; he was a 65-year-old man who was trying to piece things together exactly, and it took him some time for it to all come back to him the way they actually happened.

Secondly, unlike politicians, he's not practiced in defending against allegations (the game of what to say, and when and how to say it, to best protect yourself legally), because he's been an honest, stand-up guy who isn't used to receiving allegations. He's probably a bit in shock at these things coming out of nowhere from nearly 20 years ago. To me, he's acting just like a regular guy who just isn't used to be accused of wrongdoing, unlike, say, long-time letcherous politicians like Clinton, who always had his calm and prepared answers at the ready.

On the news they claimed that one was someone who would not identify themselves who Cain said he barely knew, the other who Cain said was about the height of his wife. In either case they need to both come out, present their identity and additionally provide some grounds for sexual harassment. This hasn't happened.

The best part, what really got a laugh out of me, was when they reminisced on the Clinton years of who 'did' come out and the name parade I swore lasted a good half minute

Good read, thanks! This was more about the false statements and lack of disclosure about a personal financial benefits paid to Clarence and his wife amounting to an estimated $1.6 million, not so much the sexual harassment case. Although, his former girlfriend does mention some relevant background info on, ahem, Long Dong Silver.

And in the words of Thurston Moore, "I believe Anita Hill."

Nice video from Dick Morris about accusations leveled against Herman Cain . Morris worked with accused former President Clinton, who was the target of sexual harassment several times. So he has experience in dealing with and understanding these situations, when it comes to politicians.

In this video commentary, I discuss the sexual harassment allegations against Herman Cain. So far, these charges are too anonymous, unspecific, and vague to hurt a breath of fresh air in our politics. Let’s have some facts…and some faces to go with the charges!

"If the Restaurant Association did a settlement, I am not - I wasn't even aware of it and I hope it wasn't for much, because nothing happened," followed by, "I was aware that an agreement was reached."

'Herman Cain - A Bit fuzzy on the Details' - not exactly a winning slogan.
