Liberal vs Conservative these days seems to be a Corporatist vs Statist thing in many ways. Private sector vs Public Sector, the interesting aspect being the more egalitarian, yet vulnerable to majority tyranny Public Sector, to the Meritocratic, minority tyranny.

I've read somewhere that conservatives have a tendency to be more organized and stick more to routine than liberals. In short, conservatives display more of the traits associated with AS. I would also point out that what the USA calls "liberal" encompasses a huge range of things, including but not limited to: what other countries would call conservatives, social liberalism, environmentalism, socialism (although no socialist would call themselves a liberal), just about any form of counter-culture, trade unionism, social democracy, and corporatism. So while Americans would call me liberal (I call myself an ecosocialist), that does not mean that I'd get on at a philosophical level with Democrats. At a personal level there is no telling who I'll get along with, although it will only be a small subset of any group.

Both the so-called liberals and the so-called corporatists are Statist. They see the government as the most important component of society.

That State is the enemy of liberty, not its defender.

If it is an enemy, then at least sometimes it can be a frenemy when it gives you a helping hand.

The State itself is a special interest. In fact it is The Most Special Interest.

The State is the enemy of liberty. It always has been and it always will be. Therefore keep the State as small and as limited as possible and still maintain peace and order in the society..

Hey captain are you an independent thinker who believes people, in particular the liberals you meet, should be above mediocrity. That could cause people to dislike you.

Stealing from Peter to pay for Paul's medicine. Some help that is.

The State has made us all accomplices to theft.

I am a conservative, and liberals don't like me. Most conservatives don't either.

Is Peter going to stand by and watch Paul die?

Long before there was Medicare there were reasonably priced medical insurance plans and pro bono clinics for the poor and working poor. Then the government took it all over. Now the only way to save poor Paul's life is through theft.

When I was a kid there were clinics for poor folks and working poor who only had to pay a fraction of the cost of treatment.

What happened to them?

I will tell you what. It is your f**king government that ruined a system that worked.

Oh, I agree! But I think that you are underestimating how much government might be needed to maintain peace and order. Is it maintaining peace and order when there is a huge underclass of poor people who regularly turn to violent crime? Is it maintaining peace and order when corporations seize control of the government, causing the people to dream about violent revolution?

I'm the same way. So join the club.

All I can say is that liberal is not the same thing as tolerant. Many liberals are exceedingly intolerant of people who are socially inept. Liberalism is very much a social climbing strategy for young urbanites.

It seems like the conservatives are the tolerant ones, and the liberal ones are intolerant of anyone who disagrees with them.
