How should animal cruelty be dealt with?
And if you talk to people around you and can only make 1% of them to reduce their flesh consume then its 3 million steaks less. That means 170.000 ha of farmland that is not used to produce food for 200.000 cows that gets butchered to receive much less food in the end, but that can be used instead directly to feed average 1.133.333 people.
Sounds great to me.
About the price discussion. There is no need to pay more. I eat simply less and its done. Western european and US citizens eat anyway so much flesh, that a reduce of flesh consume, only would lead to a more healthy diet for most people. Researching doctors even already caused alarming scientific research, that because of the many medication in industrial flesh, the amount of flesh we eat is simply unhealthy because of us getting all that medication as well. Its also causing other negative sideeffects, like the raising number of bacterias that get immune to antibiotics, because of us eating a low amoutnof antibiotics with flesh everyday, and so the bacterias can get easily used to them and also dont die anymore, when they must face a higher medical treatment of antibiotics.
This is my knee-jerk reaction too.
I think it's difficult, maybe entire impossible to be able to draw a line about what is 'cruelty', and what do we mean by 'animal'. Everything about such a question is about the subjective ethicality/morality of each individual.
I guess there is a legal definition of 'animal cruelty', and though I don't know it I am prepared to go with that definition.
I am one of those immoral people who see a difference in 'animal' as a spider or yellowjacket or jellyfish or maggot or slug, and 'animal' as in a dog or a bird or a turtle or a rat or whatever.
After some consideration, I would like to see 'justice' something like this:
Accidentaly harming an ant (or other being in that 'subset'): Whatever, s**t happens.
Accidentally harming a dog (or other being in that 'subset'): You are responsible for any and all medical expenses of said animal due to the incident.
A person (for example) pulling the wings off a fly will get a talking-to
A person (for example) ripping the legs off a squeeling bunny will get some serious mandatory therapy/rehabilitation for the rest of their life and have a close eye kept on him/her for the forseeable (as in 20 years or so) future. A heavy monetary fine set by the standard of their socioeconomic background (ie, just because your Mommy is {insert obcenely rich person here} does not place you above the law). And never be allowed to own an animal again, or have one in their household/residence. And of course be responsible for any and all medical expenses of said animal due to the incident.

Just my thoughts.
I agree. However, I would argue that hurting another human is worse than hurting another animal not because we are superior to them, but because we have somewhat more of a responsibility to treat our own species with kindness. Just like killing your sister is a bit worse than killing a random stranger.
Not to the random strangers family, also I think being that we have that capacity for intellect we have a responsibility to respect all life on this planet like people, animals and plants.

The problem is they start with flies, than work their way up.lots of counseling may change a child.A lot of it depends on if the abuse is stupidity or malice.A dimwit leaves his dog in a locked hot car, stupid.Fine him, community service.A man puts a dog in an oven, better get him away from the helpless.malice.People that neglect animals and let them go without food or water should never be allowed to have animals again.
I think all commercial farms are cruel and the best way to combat it is to not eat meat or buy free range. The local beef here is on nice pasture land, not a feed lot. They get to have a life.
What the consumer wants is what will wind up on the shelves, the more demand for free range, the more farmers will switch over.I don't mind paying extra,it tastes better also.
One of the most tender hearted animal lovers I know is a butcher,he takes in old horses and donkeys that no one wants and gives them a retirement.

What standing would you have if you acted to carry out your recommendation. Did God Himself make you the Beast Master of the Earth?

it depends what you mean by animal cruelty.
It seems hypocritical to arbitrarilly punish specific incidences of alledged animal cruelty while society turns a willful blind eye to poor treatment of factory farm animals such as battery hens for example.
Frankly if we cant do away with cruelty against humans we need to work on that before we move on to our furry and feathered friends.
Define cruelty against humans. There will always be cruelty against humans in some form so does that mean we should forget about cruelty to animals?

I chose "prison sentence" for the poll, but I think it depends on the severity of it. I'm assuming you're talking about probably fairly substantial and intentional mistreatment.
If it's something less intentional, like the crazy cat lady who just doesn't spay/neuter her cats and ends up with hundreds of them living in horrible conditions, then something like a fine and not being allowed to have pets anymore would probably suffice.

Cruelty to humans manifests from child molestation to co-ercing people in the third world to slave in unreasonable conditions for unreasonable pay.
The fact is that the wealthiest powers in the world, particularly the American military industrial complex is turning a blind eye to it and even sustaining the latter.
That is your objective opinion, not a manifest truth.
Never claimed but we should at least try to combat anti human cruelty. Right now I am not seeing this to a sufficient extent.

What, the American military industrial complex utilities slave labor?

Humans have a cruel streak as well as a kind streak. There will always be both.

I believe (know) we combat cruelty to both humans and animals.

The American state certainly utilises its friends in the private sector to this end and has agents who operate in other countries seeking the pacification and subjucation of the indigenous workforce.
There is a very good book about this very activity called 'Confessions of an Economic hitman' written by an individual called John Perkins. This person is a whistleblower and former employee of the US state.
I recommend that you read it.

I voted for prison sentence. Sure it's terrible that animals are tortured in factories that provide us with meat every day, but it seems even worse when people torture animals without any practical purpose. People who light cats on fire and throw them out windows, and people who rip out dogs' eyeballs with spoons, have sociopathic tendencies and aren't fit for society. When someone does something sadistic like this to an animal, it shows that they are also more likely to do sadistic things to humans.

That's pretty much exactly my view of it.
