In my utopia we are all either going to be rock stars or groupies.

That sounds like a pretty awesome idea.

Yes me and this lady started having these strange dreams about a utopian society. I imagined traveling 100 years into the future using cryogenic hibernaculums to freeze astronauts in suspended animation. When we arrived the first question that we asked the priest of the new city was about the sexual morality of the new society. Did they hold to the traditional family values ? The priest answered that inhabitants of the city were one big family.

So my cousin was talking to me about some unusual things, that would sound insane to most people...but I guess me and her are both insane, which is certainly more entertaining than being sane.

People call me insane because no one has dared to challenge societies social conventions. so to them I am a sociopath.

Anyway an astronaut told the Priest that his wife would kill him if she knew that he entered a city with different sexual values. The Priest replied that since this is 100 years into the future that his wife was dead and so are those that buried her and you will find her memories preserved in this gigantic pyramid that is continually being expanded along with the memories of all of the dead. Anyway the astronaut replied that he would never accept a society that did not hold the traditional family values of monogamous marriage. The priest then cried and said:
"Depart from me you workers of iniquity, go back to your wars go back to your hate go back to the hell that you will create. Go back to the reservation for you will never enter our holy city if you do not share."
The astronaut replied: "Then why did you priests give us laws concerning marriage?'
The priest replied: "Because of the hardness of your hearts we knew that you would never allow your women to be shared without killing each other off so we gave you these marriage laws to preserve the peace. But now you have made a god out of these laws yet you forget that in the beginning the Edenites had no laws except one law which they failed to keep and the more laws that we gave you the more laws that you broke.
The astronaut replied : "Very well we are astronauts so we had an idea that your society may be like 'Brave New World'.
The Priest replied : "Not so fast, this is not Brave New World. Casual sex is not allowed. We are a society that truly loves one another and we care for one another. Noble savages who practiced marriage we will allow in the city but pleasure seekers will have to go to our reservations first so they can learn how to be true lovers. Our people are like the angels who do not marry nor are they given in marriage. There are no marriages per se but weddings every day.

You're ruining my vision of a future where priests don't exist!!

Also- how is that challenging social conventions? We just got out of that oppressive nonsense (places like dubai still have laws against casual sex).

Casual sex is usually defined as sex without falling in love. Sex for purely recreational purposes. In the new society lovers would fall in love but they would not be bound to just each other but they would be free to love others as well. Each person would have a million lovers, a million children, a million mothers and a million brothers and sisters. No one would have their very own lover or there very own children or their very own mother. E

The only way the legal system separates the two is by marriage. I can say "I love you" and turn around and say "I love you too"... unless you have a way of tracking mental patterns you can never be sure.

I think the system as-is works well. More than one partner is not going to suddenly make a peaceful world- it only encourages more trouble. The mindset is what needs to be changed- like you say we should all be free to help one another. Right now many are stuck just paying the rent, that is what needs to change!

That everyone is lovers stuff however seems like an excuse for a worldwide orgy... :P

You guy's visions are really too complicated. All we really need is for robots to be designed that carry out all world needs to keep the world going and to do research. Then, we'll be free to do nothing but play Frisbee golf all day.

Isn't that heaven described by Mormonism?

In a future utopia there would be no legal system. The laws would be inside of peoples hearts. Laws defining marriage would therefore not exist therefore marriage as we know it would not exist. Since there are no laws defining weddings the ceremony of the wedding along with music would still exist for lovers to celebrate their love for each other.

Mormonism is based on the Old Testament and allows a man to have 2 wives but a woman cannot have 2 husbands. In the proposed utopia women as well as men will be allowed to have more than one lover. For this to take place jealousy and hate will have to be eliminated. In the new utopia men will love each other as brothers and this brotherly love will even be greater than the love between a man and a woman.
