How many people decided to create a utopia, then tortured and killed all the creative independent thinkers who could potentially be against the idea. I am thinking of Pol Pot in Cambodia.

I think utopia is being strived for but is constantly elusive. I reckon humanity has already been through its best period. Time to hand over to the chimps

An individual can not decide to go and create a utopia for everyone else. A quote that I really like is "You can't go around building a better world for people. Only people can build a better world for people. Otherwise it's just a cage." It comes from a book by British author Terry Pratchett.

Israel has the Kibbutz .

The Kibbutz movement in Israel is nearly dead and gone. It was a plus when the State was young and poor. Now most of the money is made by high tech high value added industries. Agriculture is now operating at nearly an industrial scale in Israel. They days of shared burden are over in the way they were back in the 1940's. The shared burden of Israel's citizens are the burdens of defense against neighbors that wish to eliminate them.
