Fox News is run by people who want to make gobs of money legally in the broadcast business. Remember news is a commodity sold in the market place. It is not a sacrament (Edward R. Murrow's preachments notwithstanding). If you don't like Fox do not patronize its sponsors and do not tune into Fox.

Right now Fox is making more money than MSNBC or CNN.

Unfortunately, that last point may very well mean that America is a land of ignorant, bigoted rednecks.

Funny cause it looks like you're the ignorant one...

A lot of what Fox News is reporting about the national debt for instance and the fact there is no way in hell that taxing the rich could pay for the insane entitlement programs can be proven using basic math, which leads me to ask if you know how to balance your own checkbook?

So says Fox. And what's their plan to fix the economy? Cutting the poor and disabled off of their entitlements? A while back, I saw a clip from Fox denigrating what they called "the poor." Just because people without much have a few luxuries in life, they figure they're not really deserving of sympathy. That included owning a TV, a coffee maker, maybe a DVD player, etc. The truth is, Fox takes the side of the rich because they're the ones who are actually waging class warfare against people unable to fight back when made into scapegoats.

It's a very peculiar thing, isn't it? Yachts are a necessity, DVD players a luxury.

I see similar sentiments in the UK media - it strikes me as a very odd form of envy. The same with the 'class war' rhetoric.

You won't find any disagreement with me on the ATOS thing. The whole thing is a vile shambles.

No surprise there, seeing how Rupert has been grabbing control of the UK media.

I've seen those festivals. The Japanese worship penises - like all sane people.

Last time I checked, federal government spending in the United States represented approximately 20% of GDP, of which about 2/3 was mandatory spending--roughly 13%, say.

Meanwhile federal tax revenues are currently running at about 15% of GDP. So by my math, the existing tax structure is sufficient to pay for all the entitlement programs. The issue, then, is to figure out what discretionary programs to provide, and what the sources of funds for those will be.

Eliminating tax expenditures alone is a start. Cutting the loopholes will not cover the costs of entitlement programs, but they will go a long way towards providing a secure funding base for discretionary spending. Then taxing individuals on a higher aggregate level will allow for reductions in corporate taxation so that the two sides can get restored to something approaching balance.

Did Faux Noise tell you about how the REPUBLICAN President Dubya turned surpluses into deficits, didn't make an effort to reestablish the Pay as you Go measures initiated under the DEMOCRATIC administration of Bill Clinton, & argued that a "surplus represents a tax surplus" (or, it represents countercyclical fiscal policy, Dubya the moron was unaware of) yet failed to argue that a budget deficit represented a tax deficit?

So what you're saying is that MSNBC and CNN should merge to stop splitting the "not completely insane" audience (with completely insane going exclusively to Faux Noise)?
