Oh, there's no contest.

OP, if you marry someone from any country in the EU, you can get a green card to live and work in all EU countries. France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Ireland, etc. One green card for the whole European Union.

Heh good for you. 8)

Have you seen the new series of Red Dwarf? Not sure if it has been shown over there yet.

No it hasn't. I'm considering getting a no region DVD player just in case they don't issue a Region 1 Red Dwarf X. Also some of the programs like Lewis or Hex are edited either for time or content in their U.S. release and I'd prefer the full Region 2 versions.

Sounds like a good plan.

It must be annoying if they edit out bits. I heard that they heavily edited our Olympic opening ceremony for the US broadcast. I've also never understood why they have to remake British shows for the US market.. I mean it's not as if we're speaking another language is it!

THERE IS A NEW SERIES OF RED DWARF?

By The Black Hand Of... oh, wait, I already put that in my signature.... this is likely the most important event since the invention of... velcro!

Now all we need is a new series of Blackadder...

Yeah un-smegging-believable isn't it!

The first episode was broadcast last Thursday, was pretty good, not quite as good as the old series, but then I wasn't expecting it to be, but it did capture some of the old magic, and some dwarf is better than no dwarf.

It's being broadcast on a channel called 'Dave', not on the BBC, so I'm not sure what the situation is with it being broadcast in the states. I'm sure it will be out on bluray / dvd soon though.

It had the same feel as the old series, definitely better than series 9. We've recorded series 1-8 and we're watching them again, too.

An awful lot of people in Scandinavian countries are really pissed off with foreigners flocking to their country to live. I'd give it a miss.

In some instances, you can kind of understand it though. The 1994 film Trainspotting was shown in U.S. cinemas with English subtitles!

But by that same token, US shows are often redubbed by British narrators for UK television.

The Edinburgh accent can be quite difficult for others to understand, even other Scots. I could really do with subtitles for some American films. I recently watched 'Precious' and understood very little of the dialogue. I know they were aiming for realism, but they really could have minimised the mumbling. I think my parents would have liked to see it, but it was pointless giving it them, as they would not have had a clue about what was being said.

If you convert to Judaism, you can move to Israel.

Also, I think that some European countries have some sort of Right of Return laws. If you have German ancestry, then you can move to Germany.

Yep. I think a lot of white American viewers could have used some subtitles there, too. Also any African-American not raised in an inner-city ghetto.

Almost any time a Scottish or Irish person appears on American tv, they will be subtitled. Also Cockneys. Sometimes Aussies but not as often. Sometimes regional American accents are even subtitled in America. I find the New Orleans area accent difficult to understand.

...though if it's not by performed by their recognized religious courts- few in number by the way, one's conversion would not be accepted and one therefore would not be allowed to move there. Also, if you convert to one of the more liberal branches, one would possibly be allowed to emigrate, but with some restrictions; they don't recognize non-Orthodox converts as Jews and therefore cannot marry a Jewish-Israeli citizen in Israel.

What about Craig Ferguson, on the Late Late Show. Is he immune? I talk just like him, so I hope I would be understood anywhere I went.

I've read of Costa Rica being a popular place for Americans to move to, due to lower price and nice environment. An article I recall on that:

"The American Dream Packs Its Bags"
