Could China and Japan Go to War over Diaoyus/Senkakus?
As much as they want as long as they're bankrolling the world. They've done pretty well stealing our technology and selling it back to us in the form of cheap s**t that breaks in a week. If we're not even willing to stand up to protect our business interests WTF is the western world going to do to China if there is a potential military conflict? Nothing, that's what. I can't even think of an ethical modern nation, except maybe Iceland.

if yo don't have the guts to stand up for your rights, then you lose your entitlement to them.
Given China's enormous population and global influence, it seems destined that China will eventually overtake the US as a global superpower. I just hope that it's not the China of today that does that. The PRC should be overthrown, and classical Chinese philosophies such as Confucianism should be revived and put into practice. The replacement government should be one that exercises these values and ideals. It should become a country that does great things for the world. A country that the rest of the world could look up to and admire. If China becomes this great country, it is likely that the world will follow.
Maybe this is just wishful thinking. At the present time, the PRC should be prevented from taking control of anymore territory that isn't rightfully theirs. Hopefully this conflict can be settled without China and Japan going to war. The casualties of such a war would be horrific.

I guess you're right. No one can stop the PRC from taking what they want. If anyone tried to, a war would probably break out. It's not worth trying to force the PRC to do anything.

I'm pretty sure that China would think twice before attempting to expand their territory in Kashmir, though... A conflict between two nuclear powers (China and Japan) is one thing, a conflict between a nuclear power (China), another nuclear power (India) and a bat-shit insane theocratic nuclear power (Pakistan) is another thing...

I am not convinced China will rise to superpower status. They will be one in the short term, but the long run looks murkier. They have deep demographic problems they need to address, like a high ratio of males to females, low fertility, and a rapidly aging population. I personally believe India will be more powerful, and the US will still project power, even if it doesn't dominate the globe.
I do think China in twenty years will be better than the China of today, though.

Japan doesn't have nuclear weapons at this time, at least none that are known of. Although they could probably build themselves some very quickly.
