The most reasonable thing would be to remove the soldiers and let the kids eat cake.
Not that I’m condoning removing the plastic solders but, yes, removing them and letting the kids eat them would have been the thing to do.

What a waste of food, did they throw them away or did the staff secretly eat them??
You might be on to something there. They might have confiscated them for their own indulgence under the pretense of “child welfare”. I’m sure wouldn’t have been the first time something like that was done.

Would a food bank accept controversial "war cakes"?Or would that be politically incorrect.
No no, better to let people starve than to risk offending that one in a million that elects to be offended.

At my school kids weren't allowed to play power rangers bcs it was 'too violent" so kids did it in secret and became obsessed with the damn power rangers.....it became a fad.
That reminds me; when I was in the 7th grade a few kids got in trouble for playing with squirt-guns in class. The principal (he was stupid for starters) made a big deal out of it and expressly forbade anyone from bringing squirt-guns on campus. In a week’s time about 90% of the students of that school brought squirt guns to school and we were always having squirt-gun battles. If yours got confiscated you just buy one that night and bring it in the next day because they are cheap. This was near the end of the school year and it continued on until school was out for the summer.
This was back before the Virginia Tech and Sandy Hook shootings, though. Now they would bring in SWAT teams and the National Guard in to machinegun us all down in the name of child welfare.

The school called the mother of the kid who brought the cupcakes, and she told the school to remove the soldiers and let the kids eat the cupcakes. And her husband said, "I believe that she might have used more colorful language..."
I’m surprised they didn’t remove her kids from her for their protection.
