Case closed.

Here is the deterrent to that deterrent.

You need to possess either (1) an unfathomable level of naivety or (2) an unfathomable level of paranoia to think that China can hack 18 Ohio Class Submarines.

1. Yes I am a bit naive at times. I will not deny that, but I do not underestimate the capabilities of any nation either.
2. It would be considered ludicrous a few years ago to think they would reach it this far. I do not see why my paranoia is not backed by truth.
3. Lets not revert to labeling people on their behavior in this subject shall we? This is not about my own insecurities and paranoia, it is about China and how they could become a threat later on down the road.

I read on an article that China is building drones themselves now. They have stated that in the slim a future conflict between the US that they could engage and swarm US aircraft Carriers in the Yellow Sea. Should this be concerning to the American public? :?

Oh yeah, because of all those foreign wars China's been in and all over the past few years, spreading Chinese ideals and defending Chinese interests throughout the world.

Well you cannot deny they have been behind some of our adversaries in said conflicts funding them,as well as might have had a hand in shaping theses conflicts, at least in secret.

When the chinese developed their own nuclear weapons did we have a hissy fit?

A drone does a lot less damage than a nuke.

My beef is that your are trying to conjure up a conflict where none exists. In case you didn't notice, the cold war is over.

And China is a threat *today* just as it has been for decades... Just as Russia is.

Once again, deal with it.

They will be a force of conquest is what they'll be.
You won't realize how much you loved the USA for being the biggest kid on the block until it's someone else who really is a bully.
How do you like fried rice w/dog meat every day IF you're that lucky?

Oh yes, I forgot that China is a leading sponsor of bullying dictatorships throughout the world.

For your information, I already eat Chinese food on a reguar basis. Its one of my favourites. Beats the hell out of a cholestrol patty served between 2 sesame buns and chips served by a clown.

I did not say Communism would be the reason for said attacks. It would be over a conflict over resources at heart. I am not wishing to conjure up a conflict, I am afraid of said conflict. Being afraid of the future is a perfectly human response for those who are actually aware of how the world is now.

Russia is also a threat as it ever was, as well, yet this topic is about China and not Russia.

Many people will have to "deal with it" should my worries come true.

I know that. My worry is they will infiltrate our defense systems. (Yes I know they are often infiltrated, but not in a major attack all at one time.)

Come now. The United States is as much a bully as anyone, we're just in denial about it. Take Iran. The whole reason we're in this mess is because the Iranian people decided to go democratic, decided they wanted to nationalize their oil. So we funded a coup, and put in our own puppet, who was an abusive jerk. Then 1979, and here we are. That wasn't bullying at all. Egypt? Tunisia? The Nicaraguan Contras?

Our hands are as bloody as anyone's.

I wrote that, not thomas81.
You could argue that we have some blood on our hands but on the other hand we provide a helluva lot of foreign aid. More than anyone else.
Certainly more than that terrorist country you speak so highly of which is NONE.

The People's Republic of China is a doomed state both politically and economically. There is no worry of China as we know it ascending to the preeminent world power, their decline would coincide with the US. While ditching their failed Marxist economy has revitalized and prolonged the current regime while the rest Communist world collapsed in on itself, it's a catch 22 at the same time for PR China. The more prosperous their people become the more of a tinderbox they become both politically and socially. It may not happen today, this month, or this year but it WILL happen.

The continued existence of the Marxist economies of Cuba and North Korea have only been prolonged by their isolation. Cuba has liberalized it's economy considerably over the course of the last 20 years and continues to implement market reforms as the vestiges of Marxism have continued to drag their economy down. Oil from their admirer down in Venezuela helps as well. Meanwhile in North Korea, which has undergone no reforms, has starvation a unfathomable scale.

If the US dropped its embargo against Cuba, the Communist regime would collapse with in 5-10 years.

theres not going to be a war about ideology, or resources. Forget about it.

China has no motive to start a war because its economy is already growing at the USA/EU's expense. If the USA decide to kick off best case scenario there will be a horrendous amount of deaths on both sides, worst case scenario (for the US) is that China opens a can of whoop ass on them.

Just not going to happen.

PR China is not a truly independent state, they are more dependent on the US than we are of them. Most of their economy is based on exports made with essentially slave labor to western Europe and the US. Thomas81 is right on the fact that China is not a culturally expansionist country unlike the US or the former Soviet Union. Even if they were, militarily they are about a 100 years behind the US and have zero ability to project their power beyond their borders. They barely have a navy. They are really a non-threat as far as the US is concerned.

/\ Any nation with a manpower pool that big and those industrial capabilities is at least a potential threat not to be discounted.
Maybe not with the current regime but that can change in a generation or less.

My mistake about mishandling the quote box.

At what point did I speak highly of anyone? I was not praising anyone, simply stating facts. If you're referring to Iran, then I was simply pointing out that the leader prior to the Shah, Mohammad Mossaddegh, was popular, respected, and popularly elected. His deposition by the US and Britain (He tried to nationalize US and British owned oil reserves, in order to build up Iranian economy) is what set the ball rolling for Iran to become a rogue state after the 1979 revolution. Our puppet, Shah Pahlavi, was brutal and despotic, but he was secular and capitalist, so we sent him massive amounts of aid. Look up Evin Prison sometime. We funded that. Is it any wonder the Iranians tend not to like us very much? Their government is horrible, but the feelings of the people towards us are perfectly reasonable.

And yes, we do dole out quite a lot of foreign aid. China spends tons on foreign investments. Neither of us does it out of compassion. We do it to win friends and influence people. We're buying allies. It's a great game, and every player seems an angel to some and a demon to others. And all of the players are both and neither. Assigning moral authority to ourselves is natural, but it's also wrongheaded. It's what leads to governments like Iran's.

I think you seriously underestimate their military ability. They're hardly "100 years behind with zero ability to project their power".

No. Drones have been around for decades. Besides, China has a right to her sovereignty and her sphere of influence.

What worries me is the apparent Chinese sophistication with cyber warfare. There is no hard evidence I am aware of that directly links their government with the cyber intrusions in the U.S, but everyone knows its them. Who else but the government can launch such a sophisticated attack from China?

Thats one of the reasons the USA is shooting itself in the foot by criminalising its black hat hackers.

Instead of imprisoning them they ought to be recruiting them as cyber soldiers.
