why would you vote for somebody you don't agree with? lots of working class folk voted for bush just because he seemed like a genial fella to have a beer with, and look what it got us.

I've spent plenty of time in bars in my wasted youth, and there have been very few - if any - fellow beer drinkers who I thought could handle the highest office in the land. So Bush coming across as the sort of fella you'd want to have a beer with never was high on my list as president.

that kind of result [like bush getting re-elected] is why h.l. mencken said "nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the american public."

How does that differentiate from Obama? In early 2009 I has trouble finding anyone that knew and liked Obama's policies but I heard lots about his charisma. Politically, where I live is roughly a 50/50 split.

In 2012, people's voting was mostly back to being based on who they thought sucked more.

Obama comes across as a genuine intellectual - and is - rather than a blue blood trying to dumb down his smarts and education to appeal to the redneck crowd, like Bush did. That's the reasons why I am an Obama supporter, and why I never liked Bush. I can't comment on why others like or dislike Obama and Bush.

Bill Clinton is smarter than Barak Obama and Thomas Jefferson was smarter than any following U.S. President.

That might very well be, as Clinton had been a Rhodes Scholar, but that hardly diminishes Obama's intelligence.

Bush trying to dumb himself down???How is that possible? The guy was dumber than a box of rocks.I never thought of him as a good ol'boy,he was a faux bubba.
The joke in Ark about Clinton was we were glad he got elected president cuz it got him out of Ark.

I just have to tell this joke.
Hillary and Bill stopped at a gas station to fill up.Hillary recognized the attendant as an old high school sweetheart. When her and Bill got back in the car Billl said"Hillary, aren't you glad you married me instead that grease monkey, you're married to the President of the U.S.A."Hillary said "Bill,if I married him, he'd be president now."

True. Obama is clearly brighter than his predecessor for example. But go back a ways. Barry Goldwater who did not make the cut, was an extremely bright fellow. And he had a bolder chin than Obama. But that did not help him at all.

http://www.foxnewsgirls.com

Here is a trivia and fan site dedicated to Fox News Women.

It is telling that Greta didn't make the top 60.

There is a poll on the site and Megyn Kelley pulls substantially ahead of the other contestants by about 33%.

I first noticed this phenomenon after the first gulf war, and can remember how big all the women's eyes were, in comparison to other broadcast news stations, before they started showing the legs cleavage, and short red skirts in full body shots on the new station, with clear glass desks to accentuate the effect.

When I first noticed them after the Gulf War, they had sort of an uncanny valley look about them to me, per high class store mannequins or Stepford Wives.

I was surprised to see that, overall, the Fox News viewership is edged out by a female audience. But I suppose, in part, that might have something to do with who is staying at home in a traditional role and who has patriarchal remote control. :)

And not surprisingly, 42% of Hannity's show is 65+ and 40% for O'Reilly, with that demographic comprising 17% of the general population.

I think overall this is reflective that the conservative core of the republican party is fading, and part of what is left is eye candy to keep the remaining viewership strong.

Or maybe it is just Rupert Murdoch engaging his fancy. :)

I also came across Rupert Murdoch's call to gun control, and a directive by a producing executive of Fox News that the Gun Control debate was off limits at first after Sandy Hook, but it appears that policy was relaxed as time went on.

http://www.businessinsider.com/fox-news ... ol-2012-12

MSNBC is suggested as the most sexist organization, as they bring on 70% male guests.

http://mediamatters.org/research/diversity_report/

Interestingly O'Reilly has a majority of female guests on his show, that well exceeds any popular prime time cable news network show. Perhaps another Rupert Murdoch factor in that decision as well. :)

http://www.people-press.org/2012/09/27/ ... audiences/

That has been a video waiting to happen for sometime now. I am surprised no one has taken advantage of it until now on the country music scene.

After all it is called "Fox"news. It is only "fair and balanced" to adequately represent the name of the show. :)

For the little TV I watch, I like NPR news. It is very vanilla per today's standards, but an attempt at providing the news. The news, and nothing but the news. NPR could not exist without government funding. My local news is all about local crime.

If I wanted entertainment instead I might turn to one of the other cable news networks. MSNBC has been on the other extreme, and CNN sold out to hyperbole with the guy that was judging Dancing with the Stars.

I cannot blame any of the cable news networks for what they do to retain an audience. It is what the target audience wants and what is required for them to stay in existence as corporate organizations. I think what results is reflective of where our culture is and where it may be going.

This talk of where or not female politicians are "hot" or "aging"is getting a bit too iffy and superficial for my tastes - even if they are vacuous when it comes to policy.

One couldn't actually have a beer with Dubya, ironically enough.

" Consumer research shows that beer is most popular with the very voters that Obama and Romney are fighting over: middle-America independents.

According to Scarborough USA, 35 percent of these voters say they’ve had a beer in the past 30 days, compared with 30 percent of Democrats and 27 percent of Republicans. The numbers are even starker when focused on microbrews, with 45 percent of independents saying they drank one in the past month — and only 25 percent of Democrats and 23 percent of Republicans saying the same."

Indeed. Obama has abstract and theoretical motives for wanting to eliminate our liberties. Most of the far right Jesus Freak Republicans want to bind us for absurd Christian reasons.

You know, it's funny. Every time a Dem comes up as president, they accuse him of trying to take away our liberties. In my lifetime, the only person who actually has was a Republican (Bush 43).
