If you pollute someone's property, then you are violating their right to property, much as you would if you'd gone and burnt their house down.

Will you please stop attempting to fight straw?

It's not a straw man. Wealth and power would be just as effective under a libertarian regime as under the current one; if you're in denial of that, you're in denial of reality.

No surprise the Republicans are already blaming Obama for this disaster. And you can bet those same Republicans will raise hell before giving the EPA more control.

Really? How do they figure that about the President?

Figures - I thought there was something fishy about them filing for bankruptcy immediately after poisoning the state of West Virginia.
And what a paragon of virtue Freedom's co-founder is! A convicted tax dodger and coke dealer!

For those of you who didn't see this coming - let me tell you how the rest of this is going to go down:

Those bastions of human decency will start a new company with the exact same business model, probably with those same debtors as financial backers - and proceed to sell the assets of the old company to the new company before scuttling the old company and it's liability to the people of West Virginia.

“We are so desperate for jobs in West Virginia, we don’t want to do anything that pushes industry out,” said Maya Nye, president of People Concerned About Chemical Safety, a citizens group that formed after a 2008 explosion and fire that killed two workers at the Bayer CropScience plant in Institute, W.Va.

This is the conundrum the Charleston area has to contend with; jobs and the risk of incidents like this that comes with this industry OR no incidents like this and also no jobs.

West Virginia just sounds like an icky state to me. Why that is, I don't know. Other states have coal and they aren't so bad off. Corruption, if you ask me.

West Virginia has been screwed over from coal from the get go,the company store would pretty much inslave you. Most of your check went to pay them.Peabody,I think it's know as Patriot Coal company now, interesting choice of names,(freedom, patriot). If the majority of jobs are coal related, then the power is totally in the hands of the employer.People are afraid to speak up if it's the only work around.

Actually, it's a beautiful state with lots to do if you like outdoor stuff.

Maybe some parts are. Most of the bad parts are in the south east.

The worse parts as far as pollution is concerned that I've seen are around Charleston and more so in the Ohio Valley area.

I'm sure West Virginia is indeed a beautiful state - but a very poor one. That's why industry has always been able to jerk the state and it's people around, due to their threat of pulling up stakes and leaving if too many voices complain about pollution, dangerous working conditions, and low wages.

You could say the same about Pennsylvania. It had coal and yet it isn't impoverished. It has more to do with the leadership and government than anything else.

Having a major city with a few million taxpayers doesn't hurt either:
