Hey! I thought racism in America was a thing of the past!

No it is not in the past.
The U.S. government, local municipalities, and public universities all promote racism.
Barack Obama promotes racism. ( http://www.usnews.com/news/articles/201 ... n-programs )
Minorities promoting racial preference laws are racist.
Why wouldn't white (probably Asians too since they don't get counted as a minority for some reason) people respond to these racists will similar racism ?
Really? Affirmative Action is responsible for racism? Then how do you explain the existence of racism prior to Affirmative Action? And seriously, even with such programs as Affirmative Action, the great majority of jobs and placements in college still go to whites. I can seriously say, I have never been discriminated against because I was white, and I honestly don't believe whites in general have lost out because of preferential treatment for minorities - save in the fevered imaginings of racists.
I never said "affirmative action" is responsible for racism. I said by definition it is racism.
I know the racists will say that "racism against white people and Asian people and possibly including white Hispanic people" is "good racism", and have justifications like you mention of "hey, I don't believe these people lost out of anything". However, it would be easy for me to find many articles of white people being racially discriminated against, and sueing the racist entity.
Here is a random one .. out of hundreds ..

The fact remains, despite what certain whites may say, there has always been greater racism against blacks than there have been against whites, despite Affirmative Action. Getting rid of Affirmative Action is not going to make the racial situation any better. On the contrary, it would only close more doors to blacks and other minorities in regard to job and college opportunities.

The poor person lacks class privilege. Nevertheless, in general poor whites are not as poorly off as poor blacks, because poor whites don't have to deal with the intersectionality of both class oppression and racial oppression that poor blacks have to face.
If one form of privilege exists then there an infinite amount of privilege to the point where the term is completely meaningless. By decrying one form of privilege you are ignoring all the others. The fact is that we are all individuals and should not be guilted by association. There is no such thing as privilege, you can experience racism or other forms of discrimination personally or even as a group but someone else not experiencing that isn't privilege. You're rights were violated, those aren't privileges. The point is, you shouldn't point your finger at anybody besides the people that have personally wronged you.

Boy, I get the feeling you're not the biggest fan of Jewish people.
I don't buy into the theory of privilege, I am using your logic.
So you deny that whites are much more likely to be hired or admitted to college? If one group faces prejudice, it only makes sense that another enjoys privilege.

Asians are even more likely to be admitted to prestigious colleges, are they privileged? Are they part of this supposed class of oppressors?
Hey guys, I know that I'm privileged and provide examples about how I'm privileged, but please don't tell me that I am! Acknowledging my privilege makes it harder for me to be a victim!
Hey, I'm a condescending dbag with nothing to contribute.
Probably the biggest misconception a lot of minorities have about white people is that they're all rich and gifted opportunities when the reality is that there are more poor whites than there any other demographic but I guess they actually deserve to be poor. This privilege theory is just absolute horses**t, let's replace white privilege with Jew privilege and they'd call it racist.
I don't think you understand the concept of privilege.
Being privileged in one area doesn't mean that you can't be disadvantaged in other areas, and it certainly doesn't mean that you'll be guaranteed to be rich and have an easy life. It simply means that, comparatively speaking, and in general, you'll be treated better than someone in a non-privileged group.
Black people tend to face more discrimination than white people. This isn't the same as saying "All whites have it easy!".

It's a meaningless term if taken that way because there are an infinite amount of factors that could be plugged into it. What happens on average means dick to me as an individual.

(Sigh) When have Asians in this country ever wielded political power to step on others? Whites have privilege in that people of your and my color have had political and economic power that Asians - or blacks - have never had in America.

You're saying that there's some vast Jewish conspiracy that makes them more powerful than any group in the country, and that their race is prone to nepotism. The last person I saw who said things like that shaved his head and liked to wear armbands in the woods with his buddies.
There are a lot of Americans that believe Honey Boo Boo should be elected president. Depending on where they got their samples from, you can get statistics to say all kinds of stupid stuff. Particularly Rasmussen polls: http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government ... n-election
No, you're trying to misinterpret the entire concept into absurdity.

Perhaps you are a little dense so I will spell it out for you, decrying white privilege as the source of all your problems is no different than decrying Jewish privilege as the source of all you problems. It is the same logic.

So another strawman, then. Because I never said it was the source of all problems ever. Alright, I'm done. Peace out.

Affirmative Action is designed to work against the deeply engrained racist attitudes that used to be written into our very laws.
.
Affirmative action is a way of forcing people to hire unqualified persons for a job.
ruveyn
Who says they're all unqualified?

I am not advocating anything.
1. The original post is "Why is there is still racism in America?", and I asserted that affirmative action, based on a simple definition of racism - is racism.
No one stated any other definition of racism, so it appears that my assertion is accepted?
2. I view affirmative action similar to Netwon's Third Law: "To every action there is always an equal and opposite reaction: or the forces of two bodies on each other are always equal and are directed in opposite directions". ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newton's_laws_of_motion )
Racism on Whites, Asians, and possibly Hispanic-Whites would appear to result in a counterforce of racism by the people that are hurt by affirmative action. This makes perfect sense to me. The racists that promote affirmative action think the answer to racism is more racism.
3. Affirmative action seems ludicrous...
The link earlier showed that wealthy black and wealthy Hispanic people were getting into the University of Texas, so "disadvantaged" means "skin color', not economically disadvantaged. If Carols Slim, the Mexican billionaire comes to America, then he is a "disadvantaged minority", and gets racial preference over a poor Asian family. Yet, somehow this makes sense ?
Next year, if a wealthy black person comes from Germany with his two black children, then his children are a "disadvantaged minority" and need preference over a poor Asian children who grew up in America. Yet, somehow the racists think this makes sense?

To be sure, a wealthy black person shouldn't depend on Affirmative Action, as the original intent had been to raise blacks out of poverty.
But I think the only whites who loudly claim they are discriminated against because of Affirmative Action have racist motives to begin with.
