Paris Hilton and the Kardashian sisters are where they are because of supply and demand, i.e. the people placed them where they are (by democratic means). Pretty much any communist leader is where he is because the petite burgeois in a poor country took advantage of a political unrest, and then created an oligarchy where the new burgeois (the high ranking communists) had everything money could buy, which the people were forced to pay for.

Nobody is forcing anyone to pay for Paris Hilton's decadent overindulgence, and if you turn of the TV during Jersey Shore, nobody sends you to concentration camp for being counter revolutionary.

They haven't contributed to society for their excessives either, you were criticising sloth.

They and their ilk milked the names, reputation anad hard work of their parents. Yet they leave an indelible impression on young ordinary people, especially girls who regard them as role models while espousing vanity, indolence and short lived consumerism. They have upon their shoulders a social responsibility which they abuse. They represent everything about the system that disgusts me.

Speaking as a UK taxpayer, the British royals DO take from me.

I will address you when you have something to offer other than strawmen and ad hominem.

What about all the people not watching tellivision at all becuase they dislike pretty much all choices given by the corporations that
decide what gets aired. Markets sway in the direction of people with more money, and busnesses poor money into public relations (propaganda) creating mobs of irrational collectivism. Markets are not democracies. Markets are mobs.

No but it ties in with the point i made about Huxley's Brave New World and about how we are becoming a society ignoring importance while drowning in a sea of trite and banality.

Moreover markets specifically are tailored to ignore people without spending power.

Markets listen to money, not to people.

Like George Carlin said "its why the US gov declares war on everything except homelessness... ....theres no money to be made in winning that war".

The market gave these people their money in the first place. Anyone with enough money to buy a television (something even people on a minimum wage job can afford), can also parttake in deciding what's popular and what's not. Compared to a planned economy, a market is indeed democratic.

Paris Hilton has money partially because of inheritence and partially because the people give her money. Since the government probably didn't know Paris Hilton's grandfather, the inheritance should be rightfully hers.

Money typically belong to the people. As far as wars go, being the most poweful country in the world also comes with a set of responsibilities. I've yet to see the US declare war against a democratic country, though, and they only seem to invade Middle-Eastern countries as a last resort.

Well, i would make 2 points to that

1) its an indicting of the ruling system that attributes so much undue accolade and reward to an individual for no discernable reason or merit.

2) the fact that she has the spending power and media attention places a level of social responsibility on her which frankly, she has failed to honour.

You might have a point if we were talking about a communist style system but we arent, the way in which money is distributed means that a very small section of people have almost all of the market attention.

What we're talking about here is a dictatorship of the market that will fail to bring anything but exacerbated disparity and the final annihilation of the middle class.

The west is invading or at least attacking middle eastern countries as long as it is politically expedient to do so. I would hardly call the Iraq adventures of 2003 a 'last resort' (all evidence pointed to the non existance of WMD) and when the UK bombed Colonel Gadaffi, Anglo-Libyan relations were evidently better than they had been since the Yvonne Fletcher killing.

Yes, and if idiots are willing to pay them for their slothfulness then that's nothing out of my pocket.

Can't do anything about them. They are a symptom of the times and their brand of silliness is nothing new.
If it were up to me I'd conscript them into the armed forces for no other reason than to shatter their world and screw them over for a while.

This is up to the people to decide.

Bill Gates has not failed his social responsibility, nor did Henry Ford or John D. Rockefeller.

In all communist societies, the money has belonged to the government. There are few countries in the world where the common man has more than in the US, and he's certainly much better of than your average person in Russia, in Belarus or in China.

We're actually talking about a democracy of the market. The middle class is shrinking in all countries; here in Norway, it's shrinking because of pressure from socialists, who believe that plumbers should be entitled to the same wages as medical doctors.

The US had tried to reason with Saddam Hussein for 20 years, with no prospects of improving the situation in Iraq. Would you prefer it if the power was passed on to Uday or Qusay instead? The weapons of mass destruction were destroyed in the 1990s, but Iraq still had the technology to build new weapons. Iraq today is one of the fastest growing economies in the world.

The invasion of Libya was because the people rebelled against Gaddafi; without intervention, it could have been a bloodshed on par with the Syrian civil war.

What type of planned economy? Decentrally planned economies are way more democratic than markets.

Oh, by that you mean she paid taxes during her healthy years?

I bet in hindsight when she was staring the grim reaper in the face she didn't find altruism so evil.

How was it altruism for her to receive a service for which she had previously paid? For all we know, she would have invested the money the state took for it's programs into an interest bearing retirement fund and paid out of pocket for a higher standard of care, but she was not given that choice under the system in place.

But, that's all besides the point; you made a statement that you either knew to be disingenuous at best, or didn't really know what you were talking about. Which was it?

I shouldn't dignify this one with an answer, but any decission in any planned economy is made by a small group of oligarchs and not the people.

Okay then, lets forget about airhead socialites and celebrities.

What about these parasitic bankers and speculative investors who ran off with billions in taxpayers dollars as golden handshakes?

They did next to no work, save for yelling at a screen full of numbers, and you did pay for that.
