conservative lifestyle=less problem
What do conservatives conserve anyway?Water?Natural Resorces?Shouldn't they be called Consumers?
I don't think my wealthy conservative relatives care much for "society,"unless you make a good six figure income, own property, have the right associates,be in the country club, you are pretty much a peasant to them.

One exception is gun rights which tbh is something I can understand as a "conservative" social facet that liberals don't share or understand, mostly because of demographic differences.
And all the sudden out the window goes that liberal live and let live mantra......
I know, thats why that particular dogma is so frustrating. The context of the guns is different. Guns in cities are not primarily used for sport and are not generally a positive facet of urban culture. They are associated with gang violence. Guns in the country, however ARE used for sport or just collecting and serve an important social function. The problem is not the different beliefs, it's the application on a federal level and portability that is so problematic.
Gun enthusiasts in both the country and urban environments use guns for sport. But while target shooting or hunting isn't some great societal evil, inner city kids with guns use each other for target practice. The problem is not Irresponsible Legal gun owners, it's irresponsible gun vendors eg black markets which benefit from main-street marketplaces and distribution.
I will point out, however that nothing in my statement was conflicting. Gun can be and are tools of harm and so restricting them fits within the liberal mindset because nothing restricts another person's freedom like killing them.
I don't keep a pistol on my person and/or in my SUV to shoot squirrels or bulls-eye targets with with. I could go paragraph by paragraph on this /\ but I just happen to be getting stuff together to go to the shooting range tomorrow so I don't have the time now.

You disagree.
I post some more data.
You say your experiences count more than data because I'm not American.
I point out that this is stupid.
You call me stupid because I am using facts.
Do you see why people call you a troll?
What you should have done is post something like this, which shows that the South is not the most obese region, and the Great Lakes area has significantly higher underreporting than the South East: http://www.uab.edu/news/latest/item/335 ... study-says
However, I cannot access the journal article at 2:30 AM, so I cannot see if they do a breakdown by state. It does not appear that they do. There would need to be a 9 point swing for Illinois to catch Mississippi, and more than that for there to be a noticeable difference.
If you want people to respect you and your opinions, you need to support them with facts.
And no, I do not "believe all statistics", and I do not believe things just because they validate my worldview (though I admit that it is unlikely that I am different from any other human in this regard, and I am likely to be more accepting of things that validate my worldview). Funnily enough, people from Mississippi being fat is not a central tenet of my philosophy of life. However, I'll believe peer-reviewed statistics ahead of the casual observations of an internet randomer, just like any sensible person would. If I told you that every person from Scotland owns five pairs of bagpipes, would you believe me just because I live in the UK?
I hope that is enough bait-taking for you.
Anyone have any idea who The Walrus is talking to??? I don't see a quote or a name so how can anyone be sure?
I do see a lot of personal attacks in there; stupid, troll, and just the tone of it is uncivil.

is a loyal partners,if a male,treats his GF,wife with respect,
never cheat,no drugs,not an as*hole.
conservative women are loyal to their partner, love
their kids, know how to raise a family, date, marry men,
who are good,have good values.
this also apply to gay and lesbians too,who
should be loyal partners,no drugs, all the other stuff I said.
Hmm can't do it....if i had a partner I'd be loyal but I am not having kids so I wouldn't have any to love, id have no idea how to raise a family not that I am interested in that to begin with. And I like to have beers sometimes and smoke cannabis...So conservatives aren't allowed to have a beer? or a coffee? or take a tylenol for a headache sounds tough.
Hopefully they don't start trying to force this lifestyle on people.

FFS. It's you. He's pretty clearly talking to you. You've wound him up a wee bit by being arsey. Well done.

drinking beer is ok,alcoholism and drug addictions are not.

someone to support you and the child.
women with good,loyal partner=happy
It's not enough just to have personal values, and then support the group which pays lip service to those values. You need to research whether positive outcomes are actually resulting from the policy. Don't just barrack for a particular political team without concern for what they are actually doing beyond the rhetoric; it's dumb.
ASD people,can live a conservative lifestyle,too.
BS! Part of the conservative lifestyle is being part of the community. For a male that means playing sports. If you can't handle the social situations or learn to navigate social hierarchies you will quickly find yourself on the outside looking in. Since we are busy disregarding statistics in favor of anecdotes I have an abbreviated story to share:
1) On the bus with my "settlers of cattan" board game a conservative woman came up to me, slapped me, and accused me of being a homosexual, among other things and proclaimed the evils of my deviant lifestyle. I literally asked her what were appropriate pastimes: "Football, baseball, basketball." Anything else: "[silence]." I then did the math and for all 8bn people to play football at least twice a week would require over half of the earth's landmass to be covered in football fields, thus some indoor hobbies are required. This wasn't enough and I couldn't escape the confines of the buss so I half-lied and said that I had a sports injury and couldn't play anymore (I have a shoulder injury from martial arts, not football): at this point I fell within the "conservative" lifestyle and so she apologized for hitting me. After she left talking to buss people I told them I had did martial arts not football and again I was deviant. I should point out, the population of the bus was on HER SIDE. HITTING A STRANGER IN THE FACE IS FINE TO CONSERVATIVES IF THE STRANGER IS EVEN SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT. Why exactly is playing board games not ok??? Because conservative lifestyles don't allow for variety! To explicitly state my point so there is no misunderstanding: This woman may have been nuts: but those who shared her beliefs supported her actions and empowered her to act with impunity Both by doing nothing to stop it and actually supporting her verbally and physically I.e. Conservatives not only do not tolerate differance but empower radicals to enforce conformity. Apie-friendly hobbies fall outside their norms and so if conservatives dominated we would be subject to the same treatment as gays and blacks: assault and lynching, while the "good" conservatives have to make the moral judgement of who to support: the deviant or the well-intentioned zealot.
Fox news has been praising Putin leadership recently. Using Putin as the example of dominant conservatism there is a group that has been castrating and executing gays and posting their work online. Putin recently gave the leader of the group 250 AK-47 rifles, applauded their zeal and but politely chided them for overdoing it. No arrests have been made in the 79 and counting publicized executions. That's the logical conclusion of a "conservative society."
@Raptor
I was saying that target shooting is a perfectly fine hobby, but doesn't apply well to the living situation where I live, which is why federal solutions are problematic because they would punish you unnecessarily to restrict the harm of a small subset of the population. Other users have cited hunting with their friends as a primary social outlet.

I was not talking about addiction more responsible usage, but I am quite certain conservatives are not immune to alcoholism or drug addiction. And so far this thread seems to suggest what you describe as a conservative lifestyle isn't stictly a conservative lifestyle and that some conservatives can't or don't fit your description. Of course if I hypothetically decided to have a kid that would be important, though I am not so sure I would be entirely happy, even if I was content with the situation.

Well, I'm politically and socially very liberal, and I would never, ever think of cheating on my wife. On top of that, we have a child who was born a few years after we were married. Neither of us smoke or do drugs, and rarely drink to excess.
As for conservatives treating their spouses with respect - - that's hardly the case in conservative, traditional societies, where women are demanded to be submissive to often physically abusive husbands. That includes areas such as the Bible Belt, where conservative fundamentalism holds sway. It's also there that you find the highest number of unwanted pregnancies and single mothers. And need I remind you, conservatives all over the country have blamed rape victims for sexual violation, and even question if the rape is legitimate if a pregnancy is the result.
And lest you forget, that paragon of family values, Sarah Palin, has a daughter who had become pregnant out of wedlock, then later broke up with her boyfriend. And this was all after they were presented as the Charles and Dianna of the Klondike at the Republican convention.
So the notion of conservative family values is just something for conservatives to beat those they disapprove of over the head with.

From what I have personally observed of those who define themselves as conservative here in America, there are two main subgroups:
ignorant science-denying religious nut job bigots and greedy businessmen who think nothing of unfairly exploiting people and polluting the planet just to make a quick buck regardless of the consequences to present or future generations.
How is this less of a problem?
oh and there are those who also stand mainly for limited government, but again many of those do so because they are part of those other two subgroups already listed and it suits their agenda. And what about the tremendous hypocrisy of saying one is for limited government at the same time one tries to legislate people's private lives? How much more intrusive can you get?
As for your definition of a conservative lifestyle, I disagree. That is NOT what I have seen. Many conservatives are fat wife-beaters, cheaters and drunks. Also, alcohol and tobacco are both much less healthy to use than marijuana is and drunks are more likely to be aggressive and start fights than people who smoke marijuana. So again the way YOU describe "conservative lifestyle" is almost the opposite of what I have seen in my fifty+ years of observing them. And as someone else pointed out, what the conservatives SAY they stand for compared to what they actually DO is quite different. And as also pointed out the G.O.P. deceives many people into voting against their own interests and the common good.
Of course there is good and bad in every person no matter what political party they belong to. But it is my honest opinion that greed, ignorance and hypocrisy are more rampant among the G.O.P. here in America, and if you don't see that yourself it seems to me you are not looking.
btw, these are my honest observations from personal experience. I am not usually as blunt and do not mean to paint all conservatives with the same brush. Many people are conservatives because that is their local or family culture, and in the main most people are pretty decent. Right now though there are several crises in my life and I am under a lot more stress than normal so I am venting here. Two people I love most are in danger of their lives right now for separate reasons and I also could lose my housing, my income, my helpers from the regional brokerage, all my stuff, be living under a bridge and see my cats put into a shelter because I am willing to stand up for principle and do what I feel is the right thing to do regardless of personal cost to me. So don't try to tell me that people more towards the liberal side don't have good values to do what is morally right.
