What's wrong with saying you're proud of being of Irish descent? You shouldn't have to wait for St. Pat's to do it, either. My friends of Irish background take pride of it year around. So do my friends of Italian or German ancestry and so forth.

Nah, I doubt many in the general public would equate "Irish pride" with"white pride*"

*"white pride", as suggesting perceived "skinhead", "neo-Nazi", or "supremacist" affiliation.

Perhaps I should move back to Europe! Although I have never been to Europe and was born and raised in the United States of America.

But the commodities traders (British?) who controlled the market thought it would be a better idea to sell their potatoes elsewhere, for more profit, and let the Irish suffer. This exemplifies the attitude and actions of the rich capitalists and the capitalistic form of government vs. the poor.

Unfortunately many people are not aware of the above.

First off, Irish didn't become legally "white" until the ~1930s at the federal level until it was removed from the Census as a separate category.
Before that Irish was counted as a separate category on the U.S. Census.

The Irish used to be discriminated against in the U.S. until WWII for being inferior and Catholic.

There is no PC in being white, though their is if you are black.

Though it is supposed to be sexist to be proud of being male and get anything of value including jobs.

Though this is negated if you are:
Buddhist (you get free pass on a lot of things).
Hindu
Jewish (you are protected class in nearly every Western country now, with laws that strip any perceived anti-semitic language from free speech).

There was no stigma in being Irish in the South,but we are mostly Ulster Irish. Many were indentured servants and predominately Protestant.A good portion of the Revolutinary army was comprised of Ulster Irish who were more than happy to go at the English.The stigma was against the later immigrants in northern cities who were referred to as famine Irish or bog Irish.
Recently traced my family to Cullybacky,County Antrim.One day I hope to go there.

Yes no one sees anyone but white people as individuals, and no white people are ever negatively blanket generalized.

What happens if your mostly white and partially something else....well then its just awkward when these things come up. I guess by default someone like that has to hate themselves and have an inner battle with their individual of some minority and that white oppressor in their head.

My native side says I should be more angry at Christianity than 'all' white people about that whole massacre and taking of just about all the land thing. Since they very much used the 'kill or convert the pagan heathens' mentality to justify much of it.

^This, but instead the argument seems to take on the tone people of european decent by default are crueler worse humans than any other ethnicity a lot of times. And doesn't even consider examples groups of white people mistreating other groups of white people.

I have had all sorts of troubles with this group.

Their economic difficulties become your problem.


Meh and I avoid yuppies, snobs, and people who judge a persons character or worth on how much money they have, their attitude makes me feel dirty. And their apathy at addressing poverty and the vast chasm between poorest and richest becomes a big problem for all of society.

But I digress to be white and in poverty can bring plenty of judgement and negative blanket generalizations as this loving character 'LoveNotHate' has demonstrated.
