Name a politician that is not an ass
Tammy Duckworth
Sherrod Brown
Raul Grijalva
Keith Elison
Jan Schakowsky
John Lewis
Elijah Cummings and
Bernie Sanders.
And there are more.
In reality there are plenty of people who are working to help ordinary working class people. Not all politicians are in it simply for their own selfish purposes.
Let me guess - all Democrats. You mean only helping certain people get more "freebies" while the real "working class" works like dogs to pay for it all? Where's my cut? I don't see anyone saying that they will pay for my education. Why? Because I have a decent paying job, but that doesn't mean that I don't have school debt just like everyone else.
Mostly yeah, but I'm liberal so what do you expect. I had respect for Ron Paul when he was in office. I didn't always agree with him but he always seemed honest and up front about what he believed. I unfortunately don't feel the same way about his son.
I don't know what "freebies" you are talking about. We pay for every service the government offers. Another thing is people who are too destitute and don't pay income taxes still pay a variety of other taxes.
I also don't understand what you're getting at with the school debt thing. I think college should be available to anyone who wants to go for should have their tuition played through tax dollars. I would probably also support a jubilee on all student debt or at the very least allow people to discharge the debt through bankruptcy. And with the way things are I would actually support lowering taxes on the middle class and raise them for the people who can comfortably afford it. Also we can add trade barriers like tariffs or a VAT tax and pull out of the various trade deals we've entered into. That will help lower the trade deficit and make it harder for US companies to make money by keeping manufacturing out of the country. This country has all of the resources we need to educate and offer the bare essentials to everyone. We just need to figure out how to use those resources more effectively.
I know that this all might just sound crazy to you. We are pretty far apart on our political worldviews.

welfare gets a tiny percentage of your tax dollars. the real money drain is corporate welfare. even when i had a very large income and big tax burden, i never begrudged poor people their food. demonizing the poor and minorities is one of the lowest republican tactics.
When it comes to Canadian politicians at least, I can think of a few who I think are sincere in their desire to serve the public and their constituents:
-Elizabeth May (I think she is our brightest and most capable politician, and I like her party's platform and her ideas for the future of Canada)
-Jack Layton (lamentably he died of cancer in 2011, but I always thought he was sincere and I liked that he seemed to have a good sense of humour and didn't think himself too important or take himself too seriously)
-Justin Trudeau (I don't always agree with him or his party, but I think he is a decent human being and his desire to serve the nation well and to leave it better than he found it is genuine)

And the democrats always state they'll help the poor and all they do is increase taxes. I do agree with you about corporate welfare though. Businesses should be decided based on the free market and not by government intervention. No bail outs, no foreign aid, no useless incompetent departments(TSA) and no federal reserve.

The only honest politicians I can think of (yes, I can think, despite what people say), are all dead. Specifically, John Heinz (and a liberal Republican from Pittsburgh, to boot), Bella Abzug from New York (although the media portrayed her as a witch), Dwight D. Eisenhower, "Give 'em Hell, Harry" Truman, and Pete Flaharty, former mayor of Pittsburgh.
What about Eisenhower? I don't agree with his politics, but he had enviable integrity... Oh, and William Jennings Bryan.
Modern ones: Jimmy Carter, and possibly Rand Paul.

By today's standards, Ike was a socialist.
91% top tax bracket, billions poured into infrastructure (the Interstate Highway System), and low cost student loans direct from the government.

So truly needy people should suffer because you saw some a**holes at Walmart? How indifferent to tragedy you must be. All for... how much are we talking about here? What percentage of your taxes goes to welfare and how much money is that? $20? $100? And what percentage of welfare recipients abuse the system? 1%? Get over it. Just admit that it's simply petty greed and misplaced jealousy that drives your small-minded politics, and not any larger viewpoint.
Not to mention that some people go onto social assistance after losing a job that had been well-paying. Should someone be required to sell everything they own before receiving assistance? What if they get nice gifts from well-off relatives: should they sell those, too, to make you feel better about your taxes?
