I doubt that old fashioned American liberals would support the military-industrial complex or the modern corporate welfare state.

But remember, Stalin had originally fallen for Hitler's bogus peace overtures, believing that Russia and Germany could then divide up the world. That was why he thought he was safe enough from western attack to purge his army. In fact, up until the German invasion, Stalin had ordered communist parties in other countries to steer clear of other left wing parties, telling them that the enemy was on the left, as he realized the totalitarian right wingers were more of his ideological brothers than were democratic socialists. So if anything, Putin is in fact following in Stalin's footsteps, though I hardly think there's an equivalent in modern Germany to Hitler who could turn the tables on him.

what is worrisome is that many amuuricans who voted for The Dotard, fancy him as an amuuurican Putrid, and actually like that Russian tyrant and want similar in amuurica.

The county commissioners in a county in Idaho had recently voted on a statement to endorse Putrid and Russia as our friend.

Idaho again. About five minutes ago I was reading another discussion here at WP about some crazy Republican senator from Idaho who wants the death penalty for women who abort their babies. Is there something... "special" about Idaho that people should know?
