Excellent point. But as long as liberalism flourishes as well as it does, you will always have corrupt leftists accumulating wealth at taxpayer expense and "wealth redistribution" while exploiting the poor as a permanent underclass in order to keep themselves in power.

I think you know I'm talking about the free wheeling capitalist oligarchs who have continuously cut wages and benefits, and sent jobs overseas, leaving millions of Americans in a downward economic slide. Fix this problem, and there won't be as much need for the taxpayers to pay for a social safety net.
By the way, there is absolutely nothing corrupt or wrong with providing the needy with a means to live, even if it is at the expense of the Goddamn taxpayers.

Who are these “free wheeling capitalist oligarchs”? I was talking about leftist lawmakers and the lobbyists who line their pockets to enact tax policies that encourage cronies to move operations overseas while sacrificing jobs. Those policies make doing business in America a burden, so I don’t blame good, honest people for outsourcing. I even considered it myself at one point. And, BTW, EVERYONE outsources something. With new policies in effect, foreign businesses are moving their manufacturing HERE. More jobs. And even our guys are starting to come back home. Big wins for everyone. So...yeah...I tend to blame liberal policies for the problems you mentioned.

It's conservative lawmakers who are enabling those capitalist oligarchs to get away with murder by cutting wages and benefits, and outsourcing, just so said oligarchs can be billionaires rather than just millionaires. Those oligarchs, who are the captains of big business, are only interested in the short term gain, when the long term plan would allow well paid, healthy workers to have much more disposable income, creating a society in which everyone would win in a perpetually growing economy. But American business has long ago forgotten how to plan ahead of the next quarter.
There is no defense for outsourcing if it leaves Americans without work. Business people who go through with this are not honest, good people. They are greedy and self centered, with little concern for their employees or the American people in general.
What's wrong with taxing big business? That's where the money is, not with the dwindling middle class. Incidentally, few of those business people who got Republican tax cuts ever reinvested that money back into their businesses. Rather, those huge refunds went into their savings.

I still have no idea who these supposed oligarchs are.

I can tell you this much, though... I work two part time jobs, both with non-profits. Neither are supported through the government aside from being tax-exempt. Both have had some serious shakeups and turnover as is normal periodically, to the point there is a de facto hiring freeze (to an extent) at both. People who don’t belong or are ineffective are getting fired, people are retiring, some literally dropped dead, and some just plain quit. Only the essential personnel are being replaced while redundancy is being reduced. And despite how tight they all say money is, I’ve gotten a significant raise at one job and am about to get more hours and responsibility at the other.

If the pianist and MUSIC TEACHER is getting a raise between 2 part time jobs at a church and a school, funded by tithes/offerings, donors, and school tuition, you cannot convince me that things are bad right now. Because if “the PIANO PLAYER” is doing well, somebody is getting money SOMEWHERE.

Oh...and for my solo freelance work playing cocktail piano for parties, I just gave myself a raise, too, and party planners are budgetting accordingly. There’s REAL money out there. I haven’t seen that for a while, so being back in the wedding and party business speaks volumes for the economic temperature out there; and the summer is looking HOT. I might actually afford a six pack of beer every week like I used to before things got so bad.

The future is looking bright, even for poor people such as myself.

And yes, EVERYONE outsources. Every time you eat at a restaurant you’re outsourcing food prep and service. Every time a business calls a vendor for janitorial supplies or contracts out custodial work, that’s outsourcing. If I could get a better deal manufacturing CD’s from glass masters in China, I’d do it in a heartbeat. That’s just smart.

And if you are capable of undercutting Chinese labor, then by all means do it.

And if the problem has been liberal tax policies that make foreign labor markets more attractive, then elect government officials who will change those liberal policies and bring jobs back home. Oh wait...we just did that.

Can we stop on the economics talks?
It's distracting from the point of the thread.

Treatment of the natives (Breaking contracts, shoving people of their land, viewing them as lesser)
Slavery
Jim crow laws
Institutions (So highly abusive many children didn't make it to adulthood.)
Disabled children being left to starve or being refused surgeries.
Eugenics (WE inspired the Nazis)
Concentration camps for Japanese Americans.

Is there a country which should be held up as a model for the United States to emulate?

Not one I have found. All countries are filled with evil. As such, emulating a country would just cause us to emulate their flaws. Instead, recognizing our own flaws, and focusing on becoming better instead of:
1. infighting
2. comparing ourselves to others
3. sweeping our issues under the rug
or 4. all of the above

We could chose 5, be aware of our issues and seek to become better, being transparent about it.

I am considering moving to South Africa at some point, because it's service dog laws exist (Even if vague), it's adoption laws are manageable, it's cost of living is low, it's problems are clear on the surface, and gosh darn it, it's pretty. Even if it's racism issues are even worse than America's, poverty is common, and violent crime is a big issue there.

First, sorry your dad died, especially at the hands of terrorist scum. There has been far too much of that as we waste our time trying to help the savage become civilized (when they refuse to even try).

Hate the US and talk about leaving it? Yep, you're a liberal.

I see you list an article that "claims" WE STERILIZED 70,000 PEOPLE!! !.....without a shred of evidence to back that claim up.

I see you wish to move to S. Africa.....which is where any smart white person is moving OUT of because of the crime and bloodshed (i.e. racist slaughter of whites by blacks). I know several people FROM there, and I met a man from Zimbabwe who told the same story.....hence why HE was here as well. Bad idea, I would not recommend it.

Sad to see that today's youth have been so poisoned by the liberal rantings of the "teachers" we are paying for. Hopefully you will see their BS for what it is......BS.

You claim to love history? Well here's a few facts for ya:
Democrats voted to KEEP slavery.
Democrats voted for, enacted, and enforced the Jim Crow laws you rant about.
Democrats formed the KKK.
A Democrat was president when we got into WWI.
A Democrat was president when we got into WWII.
A Democrat was president when we got into the Korean War.
A Democrat was president when we got into the Vietnam War (and it took Nixon, an R, to get us out).
A Democrat was president when we got into the Bay of Pigs mess/massacre (Kennedy).

Like I said, America has it's faults, but there's a ton of reasons why millions want to move here (many illegally) vs people that want to move away. Actually talk to people who have come here, and ask them why they came here instead of going somewhere else.

CORRECTION: Nobody PUT young college students in $100,000+ student loans, they CHOSE that for themselves. Thus, it is NOT "slavery" but the just consequence of THEIR actions. You need to put the blame where the blame belongs, and they need to be held accountable for THEIR actions. I got an AS degree that cost only a couple hundred bucks (to me), and I never had student debt, and when the work is there, make very good money. I CHOSE not to get into huge debt, and I CHOSE a career path that is desirable and will actually make good money. Many of these idiot, lazy, entitled students CHOSE worthless liberal arts degrees, got into "$100,000+ student loans", can't find work, and expect US taxpayers to forgive their debt for wasting the money on useless degrees. Surprise!....we're not willing to forgive their debt....

I agree. My post was deliberately misinterpreted to defend the capitalist powers that be, in order to make a statement attacking liberal progressive ideology and policy.

Without the liberal arts, there would be no culture in America, no arts, no humanities. All we'd have would be a stale, sterile society where people work, go home to eat, make little people, sleep, then repeat, with little else. You might be content with that sort of life, but I'm certainly not.

For simplicity. I have a hard time multitasking and I live in the us, so for now it makes sense.

So why not the entire continent or your state or county or town or neighborhood?

I raise the issue because I don't see a reason to single out the United States in crimes against humanity because there aren't crimes the U.S. has committed that really haven't been committed elsewhere.

Right now Myanmar is waging an ethnic cleansing campaign against the Rohingya. They have been stripped of citizenship, have been raped, tortured, murdered, have had their villages burnt down and are being hunted down as they are pushed out of their country with no place to go. Some of these people are 4th generation Burmese. The Rohingya didn't do anything to seed such hostile sentiments against them. They are being scapegoated used as basis for fascism and this isn't something that happened in the past. This is happening now, in 2018 this very instant.

I don't believe that for a second. You don't need a liberal arts degree to be creative and artistic, I'm proof of that....and there's plenty other out there just like me. I've never had (or needed) any formal art training, I just understand what's pleasing to the eye. There are plenty of conservative artists, actors, etc., that manage to be creative without being a liberal "artist".

Culture is debatable, like art. I think we in America have our own culture, and that it's plenty unique.

As far as humanities, by far the most money and effort in solving 3rd world problems (clean water, sanitation, healthy food, medicine) comes from Christian Conservative charities etc. I Doubt many, if any, of them are liberal artists.

I'm quite content with the clean water, sanitation, good roads, fresh produce/food, technologies, medicine, and art that those with STEM science majors gave us....oh, and the art too.....

Agree 100%. It's ignorant to think America is "Evil" for things that happened 400-150 years ago when we, as a species (man), typically did horrible things to each other all across the world. The difference is, now WE, and all the other CIVILIZED nations have realized these things are bad, and stopped them long ago.....while all these OTHER countries are engaging in these brutal human rights violations TODAY. But, I should expect that from children of an age where they are busy thinking that eating Tide Pods and drinking Vape fluid is makes them special and enlightened.....

If we do not reflect on the evils we have done, we do it again. We aren't as civilized as you think. And almost no teenagers actually eat tide pods, it just makes for a catchy headline. The worst I have seen is eating Carolina reapers for views.

We have human rights violations in america right now, but I am choosing to stay out of that to avoid getting off topic- guess that didn't work.

The whole Continent doesn't apply to me and is to diverse, and my town or state is to narrow. it makes the most sense to target America.

Abusive therapies still go on today, and eugenics only ended in the 1970's and still exists in other forms today. Do a little research on buck v bell before you question the 70,000.

Now, kindly stop. I want to focus on relevant posts and you are distracting.

STEM students can tell you how to clone a dinosaur.

Liberal arts students can explain why that's a bad idea.

Most of human experience can't be confined to STEM. Culture, art, and language exist. Just because it can't be evaluated under a microscope doesn't make it irrelevant. If you get accused of a crime, you'd better hope somebody with high verbal intelligence is there to defend you.

I'll be happy when humans are content to dump social hierarchies, and focus on advancing the future.
