As I've said already, the UK is a close ally that hasn't used that kind of intelligence operation to alter the politics of other countries, whereas Russia is an enemy that has used this same tactic in the past. That alone sends off my alarm bells.

be that as it may, i can see why most russian citizens would personally be anti clinton and wouldn't need to be hired by their government to want to thwart her and those like her. and they acting on their own should have just as much carte blanche as the uk to try influencing amarican voters.

citizens of other countries like france, germany, spain, italy, japan, china, mexico etc. don't seem to be involving themselves.

So why wouldn't the Russian government attempt to influence American politics? They have motive, means, and opportunity, and most importantly, their national leader is a spy master who has done this sort of thing before.

i just don't see why the russian government would need to pay their citizens to do something they would do anyways. just like uk/canada/australia/nz don't need to pay their citizens to attempt to influence american politics which they are doing in droves nonstop around the clock.

Because these are professional intelligence operatives. They're not going to leave anything to chance, but have a tightly controlled operation in which nothing is left to chance or whim. Everything is controlled or scripted.
Why the sympathy for Russia, at the expense of your own country?

understanding why someone is doing something doesn't mean condoning it or sympathizing with them.

making a baseless estimation, it could be what's coming out of russia is 30% putin and 70% citizens acting on their own, just like the uk citizens act on their own. if i was a trump supporter, i'd look at the uk and co's interference as being at the expense of my country though.

Even 30% is unacceptable if it's an attack coming from a foreign power.
It wasn't liberal citizens who had uncovered Russian cyber war, but our own intelligence agencies.

It is supposed to be so wrong for those from other countries to supposedly generate tons of anti-Trump material over the internet nonstop to influence American voters.

Yet it seems to be perfectly okay for Russians working from troll farms to generate pro-Trump material over the internet to influence American voters.

I guess it all depends on your perspective.

I'm not seeing anything throughout msm where it's being pointed out that thousands of people form other countries are on the internet via twitter, instagram, facebook et al condemning the current administration and trying to get americans to turn against it. Why isn't msm going on about troll farms within the uk and its commonwealths?
Russian trolls without any conviction or bought and paid for versus the general public engaging in sincere discussions with occasional political satire is the honestly massive difference here.

I think it's incredible how the emphasis is placed on Russia's cyber activities, when LITERALLY ALL the major intelligence agencies acknowledge that Russia's cyber abilities dwindle before those of China, which is allowed to buy up our infrastructure and - in the UK - even our power plants!

The difference, of course, is that western big business makes a shedload of money out of China's slave labour services, and so the politicians and media that big business owns can't be allowed to criticize it.

Dem damn sneaky Chineseses!
First they stir fry cute little cats and dogs and now THIS?!

Well, the LGBTQ-autism project with which I am working is seeking to use a design from the American web site, Twainbow.org, only to learn that, before the designer got it trademarked and/or copyrighted, China beat them to the punch in production, and now charge for the same products. The design is now in the public domain, but Twainbow.org loses out on what could have been revenue to help LGBTQ-autism advocacy.
