In standard warfare the Isrealis will utterly extinguish the Palestineans. The only warfare Palestineans have a chance at is asymmetric warfare (suicide bombings, IEDs and the like).

Man for man the IDF is the best army on the planet. Tougher than our Marines. They are well motivated too. The alternative is extermination by the Muslims.

The Israelis did not loose. They simply were not permitted to win. The Israelis exacted casualties at about a 50:1 ratio. This is not loosing. But it is not winning either. Wining would require total extermination of the enemy and this would not be permitted by the United States which foots a good deal of the bill.

In a straight on clash of conventional arms the Israelies so far have been the best of the best.

There is a good reason too. The Israelis control the air when they fight conventionally.

Look at Iraq. Look at Afghanistan. War is no longer "conventional".
Of course if you look at the illegal cluster bombs in Lebanon that blew up loads of women and kids you get a fantastic body count.
Look what Truman did with one bomber over Hiroshima.

You are quite right. Perhaps both the U.S. and Israel should try their form of non-symmetric warfare --- theater nukes. That would completely nullify the suicide bombers who would be turned into a gaseous mist in under a microsecond.

The idea of putting American boots on the ground in a Muslim country is absurd. We should have nuked them right off.

I cannot take any religion seriously whose founder preached and carried out agressive warfare against his neighbors. To me, it's not Rushdie who compares to Hitler, but Mohammed.

As long as it is Their humans and not Our humans. The entire objective of war is to kill the enemy and bust up his sh*t.

And to not dis the nukes. They ended the Pacific War in 1945 rather quickly. Two nukes and the Japs folded like a house of cards. So much for Bushido and Samuri courage.

For a man who apparently is used to appraising reality it's amazing how much you don't know.

Horsefeathers. I lived during WW2. What do you know?

The nukes got Hirohito's attention. That last nuke was dropped on Aug 9. The Japs surrendered on Sep. 15.

P.S. Szillard was a scientific genius and a total imbecile when it came to fighting and winning wars. After Germany was defeated, Szillard saw no further use for nukes. Why should he His ass was not going to be sent to the Pacific to be shot at.

My father was gunnery officer on the light cruiser Oakland, was stationed in the Pacific, and had been engaged in every major battle against Japan, only being wounded once. I'm sure glad we nuked them :)

You mean the bomb did NOT make the Japs surrender? Bullsh*t. Szillard was a political and military imbecile. You win the war by killing enough of the enemy and busting up his sh*t. The U.S. burned Japan to the ground, but it was the nukes that broke their will to fight.

This from http://www.commondreams.org/views06/0806-25.htm

The question of military necessity can be quickly put to rest. "Japan was already defeated and dropping the bomb was completely unnecessary." Those are not the words of a latter-day revisionist historian or a leftist writer. They are certainly not the words of an America-hater. They are the words of Dwight D. Eisenhower, Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe and future president of the United States. Eisenhower knew, as did the entire senior U.S. officer corps, that by mid 1945 Japan was defenseless.

You were fighting a relatively rational enemy (even if their leader wasn't) :D

The Japanese of WWII do not qualify as rational. And irrational tactics were necessary to bring them down. I for one am very glad Truman chose to nuke them, rather than kill any more of our troops invading them.
