Of course there are those who twist it to fit agendas, but that shouldn't reflect on god himself or his teachings.
Picture this, you are a world known celebrity. One of your fans, using your name and publicly declaring himself a fan, goes on a killing spree, is it your fault?

It's not being twisted, it's really a horrible book. Christians are good people to the extent they ignore their holy book.

I've read it, many many times through, and taken in context it really isn't.

Christians tend to bend over backwards to provide apologetics that try to explain a context in which these horrible statements seem to make sense. I'm not buying it. Bears attacking children, dashing babies against rocks, genocide, not suffering a witch to live, prohibition on "graven images", marrying your rapist, confusion between rape and voluntary sodomy, and most of all the valuation of faith which is belief based on no evidence or even in spite of contrary evidence.

I mean, my mom is kinda like that actually ... I can't tell you how many times she's said things like "you have nothing in common with someone that doesn't believe in God" and even stand me down about my priorities being wrong if I were to dispute that. I only have one thing in common with most Christians and that's the fact we believe in God. 9 times out of 10 there is nothing else to make a common thread over.

There are a lot of things in common between those who believe in God, and those who don't:
1. We are all human beings.
2. We tend to believe in something that exists elsewhere in the universe, whether be a deity or alien.
3. We can intentionally commit any wrongdoing and either feel guilty about it, or keep doing it.
4. We may blame on others for things that are actually our own fault.

Any one who says that "Christianity is a peaceful and loving religion" REALLY needs to be forced to fact-check, and see how Christianity should actually be better so there won't be any more of this "religion wars".

Marring the rapist was a thing to insure at the time that the woman would be taken care of, it forced the man to pay for the woman's livelihood, shamed him to his neighbors and was a protection for the woman and any children- because of that society otherwise she likely would of ended up very poor and unable to marry.

Many, maybe even all of that was abolished in the new testament, much of that wasn't even encouraged. Sometimes people in the bible did ungodly things. For instance Samson was a horrible person and the only good thing he did was a suicide murder.

A lot of it came from Israel's status as a chosen nation (It's protection came first), and did have exceptions, like Rahab.

The last part is purely your mistaken opinion. I have more evidence of God in my life than you, that's for sure.

I'll bet you don't. Anyway, you are just proving the OT and NT were provincial documents, not a universal guide to living by an omniscient god, who had no idea that his endorsement of slavery would have any implications in the modern world.

This whole thread should be in PPR, not in General Autism.

I get annoyed by both religous people AND atheists. Many atheists I know are just as arrogant and dogmatic in their (lack of) beliefs as Christians are in their beliefs.

I think maybe it's best to just not even think about that s**t...

In San Diego 2006, a Baptist Republican civil engineer mister redelings had the nerve to tell me that, it was "lying" for you to ask me to call you "he" instead of "she"

He "refused to call you by your boys name"

He enthusiastically told me off. "You don't care about anyone except yourself!". "it is all in your head!" "You make people uncomfortable with the way you dress!". "The reason why you like to wear guys clothes is because, you had a bad relationship with your dad and you are making fun of him".

No apology

Much less financial reparations

Now I feel reluctant to trust anyone

Because he appeared so trustworthy

Too many businesses are closed for Christian holidays. Not Ramadan (United States)

Sing Christmas carols in public school

"Bless you"

In court, swear on the Bible

What happened to :ninja: separation of church and state :?:

The government should not celebrate Christian holidays unless it also celebrates all other religious holidays :!:

Thus far, it appears to me that, religious precious lil "people" tend to have a "holier than thou" attitude when they disagree with you about something

But until then, they act all buddy buddy

Pattern recognition. The world contains seven billion people and not all fit the statement, but a disproportionate number do

Am I the only person who realizes that atheists are the exact same way? They view anybody who believes in God(s) or the afterlife with such contempt. They will openly insult them and say anybody who believes in religion is stupid and evil.

They themselves act like believing only in science makes them God. Oh that's right... they don't believe in God.

Funny thing about science... nothing EVER existed until science proved and documented that it existed.

So everybody who ever claimed to see giant squids out in the ocean were laughed at by the scientific community... until actual dead giant squids started washing up on shore.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giant_squid

So if you dare to believe in things that are not yet proven to exist by the all-knowing scientists then you are just a silly twit.
