Even if your writings were from an angel from heaven I would take this horrible document, and, after having used it as toilet paper, wipe its nose.

You're all misquoting him, you bloodthirsty prophets of murder and spirits of rebellion!

The excrement of the eagle can boast that it comes from the eagle's body even though it stinks and is useless; and so you can also be of the nobility. You people are and remain people, that is, swine and senseless beasts.
From Whether Soldiers, too, can be Saved, pg. 101 of Luther's Works, Vol. 46

Actually, that's kind of an interesting statement because it shows how Luther was a pioneer of modern democratic and egalitarian thinking. In essence he is saying that "you aristocrats got to be aristocrats just by being born into nobility, and didn't earn it. And you're all just like the 'other slobs riding on the bus' like the rest of us".

Pretty sure that was Calvin, not Luther.

Also enjoyable.

I would not dream of judging or punishing you, except to say that you were born from the behind of the devil, are full of devils, lies, blasphemy, and idolatry; are the instigator of these things, God's enemy, Antichrist, desolater of Christendom, and steward of Sodom.
From Against the Roman Papacy, an Institution of the Devil, pg. 363 of Luther's Works, Vol. 41

Well...there ya go. The perfect way to iron out workplace friction through diplomacy.

Just say "I am not judging you.Nor am I out to punish you. I just think that you were born from the Devi's ass, and are possessed by demons, and are out to lay waste to all of Christendom!"

I get his point in a way bcuz if you desecrate divine teachings for your own good it can be angering. Like I try not to mind the concepts of Shiism and certainly don't mind the ppl.
but when I read or see a video of them beat themselves n bleed n expose little kids to that..like putting a cut in a little kid's forehead to make him part of it..
N the reason is so illogical and its all unnecessary..
That makes me quite angry that that is even a thing. They also badmouth ppl the Prophet loved n respected.. N that too is not the way to go about things.. Lets say u don't like someone.. Why make that an essence of your belief to the point u keep bringing them up n badmouthinh them.. Its like my perseveration with lawyers.

So it's best to stay away entirely as it just fosters more bitterness.. In fact u take the bait by responding..

yeah... I wonder what my sister thinks. Is Roman papacy the same thing as Catholicism?

The Roman Papacy is the ruling body of Roman Catholicism and of the polity of Vatican City.

Well...he was the gangsta rapper of his time. :D

Actually- the Shakespeare insults, are quite good and colorful. But Shakespeare sure looks tame when compared to Luther, who really gets down and dirty and lets you have it with both barrels! 8O

Yeah I think if you abstain from certain things it can build up and make you angrier. Or maybe you see things that make you angry .. Like my dad hates India now after all the stuff happening...

But then again it's more the politics n wrong things being done... that you are angry at...not the general population.. But what ppl buy into.. N wrongdoing that stems from that, I guess.. For both my dad and Luther.. Anyway im staying off religious discussions now as im sure to say something offensive or hurtful..

The Pope ruled the Christianity of all of western Europe back then (the east had various forms of Eastern Orthodoxy).

Protestantism didn't yet exist. Luther himself was the man who sparked the upheavel that would become the Reformation, and Protestantism- and would split up west European Christianity. So like everyone else in his time he couldn't speak of "Catholic as opposed to Protestant". So for practical purposes when you see Luther say "the Roman Papacy" you can read it as meaning "the Catholic Church".
