Should Britain compensate for its empire ?
Well...maybe Germany can empty out an Israel-sized piece of land in its country, and give it to the Palestinians. All Palestinian Arabs could relocate to this new available land and found "New Palestine" in the heart of Europe, and could therefore renounce all claim to land in the original Palestine. That way both Israelies and Palestinians would have a homeland. The only loser would Germany. And Germany would "deserve" it because it would be indirect compensation to Israel for the Holocaust.
Or we could give the Palestinians a peice of land nobody really uses, like Greenland. And teach them how to survive in the cold.

Or we can just stop trying to steal their homeland out from under them and tell the invaders to pike off.

Just a reminder: under international law, an occupying power has no right of self-defense, and those who are occupied have the right and duty to liberate themselves by any means possible.

Greenland is not for sale. And it most certainly isn't for giving away.

Yes, I'm all for that too.

I don't think these complex moral questions have much meaning, and I don't think there's any definitive answer. For me there is no "should be," there is only what is, what I want, and what other people want. People often say this or that "should be," but I think they're just expressing their own personal wishes in a fudgy way, as an attempt to persuade others to help them get what they want. So whenever I hear the word "should," I translate it, which involves figuring out who wants the thing, and I note that whoever it is must be trying to pull the wool over my eyes.
In this case it's not clear who is going around saying Britain should compensate for its empire. Presumably somebody from an ex-British colony hoping to get some money out of it, either for themselves of for their fatherland if they're of a strongly nationalistic bent. It's not clear what they mean by Britain either - the whole pack of us, including the poor, or just the toffs? Personally I don't like the idea of taking from people who only just have enough themselves, but I'm happy to see the British toffs get fleeced. I might feel tempted to help somebody out who is struggling financially, but if so, I won't be peering very far into world history to figure out how much help to give them. It'd be more based on what they needed and what I feel I can afford to give. And I'm not reknowned for donating money anyway, mostly I just give away my music and share my expertise, experience and advice, for what it's worth. When I have handed over money it's usually been to people I know and have a personal liking for. I wouldn't take kindly to an Empire Compensation Tax imposed on me by somebody else, and I doubt the British people would come close to ratifying it in a referendum.

Absurd for too many reasons to list.
But Palestine aside, if I were Trump I would offer Denmark this deal:swap islands. Greenland for Puerto Rico. Trump hates puerto rico and obviously longs to be rid of it. And Greenland has been of strategic military use by the US since WWII, and will become even more valuable both militarily and economically with global warming (which doesnt exist, but Trump wants to get in ground floor to exploit it anyway). So why didnt our "art of the deal" potus think of offering that?
And Denmark would get Pitbull, and Tito Puente!
