Should hate crime laws apply to religious groups?

I included 8 examples in my OP. Do you think they should be considered illegal hate speech?
Well, in my home country of Denmark statements 2 to 8 would likely never be covered by hate speech laws... they are too generic.
The first claim "(same sex acts are an abomination") could theoretically fall under the Danish hate speech laws because of the word "abomination" has a very strong derogative meaning here... but it would depend on the context in which the statement was made, as simply quoting religious scripture (Leviticus 18:22 in this case) is unlikely to be considered hate speech in itself.
Personally, I prefer rebuttal over repression...
What about quoting Leviticus 20:13 which is the same as Leviticus 18:22 except it adds "they shall be put to death"? A pastor in Canada was charged for quoting that verse to someone with same sex attraction after that person claimed he was threatened by it.
Any criticism of LGBT+ people should be illegal.

People say "all lives matter" because statistics show black people are not more likely to be killed by police than white people. The reason that may not seem true is because the corrupt mainstream media makes every questionable black death by cops national news while ignoring every white person killed by police. The media and the politicians who constantly stir up racial tensions don't care about black people. They're just using them to promote their agenda and win elections. I consider that immoral and racist.
You people will believe anything your supreme leader Trump tells you about the press, won't you? I swear to God this is all like 1930's Germany all over again. Did you know that Hitler also convinced the Germans not to trust their own press and to only trust the state-enforced Nazi propaganda on their radios?

Feel free to post statistics that show unarmed black people are more likely to be killed by police than white people. I know it's not true, not because Trump or the media told me, but because I looked up the statistics and checked the facts for myself.
You accuse Trump supporters of believing everything Trump says while believing everything the media tells you so you're doing the same thing you're accusing us of doing. You can easily verify it yourself online that the media is lying to you if you value the truth.

Unlike you, I actually KNOW black people who were brutally assaulted by the police. Get back to your Fox New and Trump Twitter Propaganda.

I knew someone who was denied food at the food bank because he had an inexpensive older vehicle. They said the food was for people who actually needed it. If I saw someone driving a new BMW going to the welfare office to apply for a handout, I'd suspect they may be abusing the welfare system and have a problem with it too. I think some states don't allow people with more than $2,000 in assets to collect food stamps because they want to preserve the limited resources for those who need it the most. They'd tell that person to sell their car and use the money they get to buy food before asking other people for money.
How do you know someone isn't borrowing a vehicle? That is where it went wrong when that woman assumed. She doesn't know that person's situation and she made a judgment.
I got a 2013 model vehicle from my dad for $2000 and I pay nothing for it. At the time, it was 4 years old when I first got it and my parents were downsizing their vehicles. But I use it to drive my kid to school. I hope I never have to apply for any food stamps in the future and be expected to sell my vehicle to qualify. I would go to food banks and stuff and go online and find places that are giving out free food so I can feed my kids. For a long time I drove a 1999 salvaged title vehicle and it was becoming a money pit so I let that car go and gave it to my mom in law because every car she had owned always broke down and she would end up selling it and get a new car because it was cheaper. Since my car had never broken down on me, I gave it to her when my dad gave me his car for $2000. Before I even had this car, I would some times drive my parent's car if my car was in the shop. One time I had to rent a car and it was a brand new one when my car was in the collision shop and my car insurance paid for it.
Luckily here in Oregon, they go by your income and you show proof of your income and show them your banking statements, I think they also go by how much you have in savings too and look at your bonds you have like retirement and stuff. People go on unemployment if they get laid off. That also means they may have to go apply for food stamps too. It wouldn't matter what car they drive or what items they own. They bought all that before they lost their jobs.

No one claimed black people were never assaulted by the police. There are YouTube videos showing innocent white people being brutally assaulted by the police. It happens to everyone regardless of skin color. Do you have any evidence that police kill black people who aren't a threat more often than white people?

It's known that people abuse the welfare system. I heard many women admit they were doing it and openly discussing tips with other people on how to "work the system" (that's what they called it). I'm sure she saw more than one person who may have been abusing the system. Your post made it sound like she ranted about welfare abuse in general, not any particular person, so she may not have assumed anything.

Some states exempt one vehicle if it's used for work or childcare (which I support) while other states go as far as requiring older people to sell their burial plots to get food stamps (I don't support that). My point is no one wants people taking advantage of the government because those of us who pay taxes are paying for it. We just want people to be responsible.

I also don't believe that disagreeing with someone in a respectful and reasonable fashion is hate speech.
Religious leaders have the right to promote doctrine of there theology in a reasonable manor without it being hate speech.
I don't think A Rabbi saying that believing Jesus in divine,is idolatry a serious violation of the first two of the ten commandments. And that Christianity is a polytheistic pagan religion- I would not call that bigotry or hate if said in a non rageful fashion
I would not call a christian minister saying homosexuality is a sin "Hate" or bigotry if spoken in non hateful, rageful or angry fashion.
In a free country people have the right to espouse religious doctrine as long as it's done peacefully.Religious doctrine may disagree with some peoples way life but as long but as long as anger, hate, rage or advocacy of violence is not promoted it's ok to disagree with how people may live.

In Canada, pastors can be charged with a hate crime for quoting the bible. https://christiannews.net/2013/02/28/ca ... ate-crime/
This will also hinder those speaking out against the missionaries because then Jews won't be able to say "Christianity is idolatry, polytheistic and pagan" because that will then be considered hate.

Well, that could certainly be construed as a specific death threat, and not a symbolic judgment, so to me it is more clear-cut example of hate speech.
Even in this case - however - it would be relevant to distinguish between a descriptive and prescriptive statement:
- Descriptive: (In the Old Testament, Leviticus 20:13 contains the phrase "homosexuals must be put to death")
- Prescriptive: (As commanded in Leviticus 20:13, homosexuals must be put to death!)
It is difficult to conceive why the former ought to be hate speech, and I suggest quite a few LGBT individuals themselves would quote it to demonstrate why they are *not* Christians...
I'm guessing the pastor in question was Bill Whatcott, though, in which case there is little doubt that he was making a prescriptive statement:

I saw a youtube video of an Israeli Rabbi saying that christian's and Messianic's who come to Israel to try to convert Jew's should be beheaded, this sounds like hate. But would simply calling Christianity idolatry or paganism be hate?

I see you're not interested in dialogue. Maybe you're too angry? If that ever changes, I'm ready and willing to consider any facts you're able to present, if you actually have any, since I'm always open to learning and value the truth.
Mr Reynholm wrote:
I didn't vote in the poll because I don't think "Hate Crime" laws should even exist. Committing a crime is committing a crime. Making it more of a crime based on a persons real or imagined characteristics is not just.
Since there is no singular, absolute definition of human nature, nor any ultimate evaluation of human nature beyond that which we project onto others, individuals should only be judged or defined by their actions and choices, and not by what we imagine their intentions and motivations to be.When I voted "Hate crimes should apply to everyone..." it was for the same reasons Mr. Reynholm cited -- a crime is a crime is a crime, and every crime should be treated the same as every other crime like it.
