I think nobody except Bric is making this into a political issue.

Again, the point was how "left wing" and "right wing" are weaponised (not just in this case) to deflect from societal issues...I'm certain most (if not all) members here would be against the sort of content included in the film, and I'm equally certain a large portion would be shocked that someone could have considered them "right wing" for being against the content (or "right wing" at all).

It is strange that, with the above both being from replies to posts you made in the thread, that you are unaware of what my intention was...The fact that are you are making assertions directly contradicted by the facts available is also disturbing.

I am now curious about the film and I would say peoples' concerns are that pedophiles would use this film to act on their urges without actually offending if that makes sense. Same reason why many people are against sexualization of children regarding clothing that looks revealing or has the words hottie or sexy on it.

I think it's likely a combination of that, along with the beginning of "normalisation" of this sort of thing within society which the film could be seen by some to represent.

If this was your intention then why the click-bait title "Are you unknowingly right wing" ?

A more appropriate title would be "Weaponising politics" or something to that effect, I very much doubt you would have been bothered with this article if Brody was attacking the left....

Vladimir Nabakov's "Lolita" is considered an artistic masterpiece. It's been invoked in stories, movies, music and art. In history the sexualisation of children is ancient as mankind with founding fathers of western civilisation, Greece and Rome, allowed it to flourish. The founding fathers of the United States permitted men to legally rape children if they were slaves. Thats barely more than a 150 years ago.

If anything our modern society is different in that we have placed pedophilia in its appropriate place as a mental illness. I hardly think this movie is going to do anything to normalise pedophilia as you claim to take us back 150 years.

First off, do you think "Lolita" was written in favour of the idea? Second, only Nabokov himself was involved in writing his book. This movie has actual children involved.

It's kind of funny, really. I could track down some of the clips and post them, but that would likely get removed. For some reason...

Whatever Nabokov's intentions the public perception is more powerful.

I have seen a number of European movies that have covered the general theme of older men and teenage girls. Hollywood has also played with this theme such as in the Michael Caine 1984 Movie "Blame it on Rio" which I couldn't mentally process how a 17 year old girl (who looked 15) could have sex multiple times in a movie with a 45 year old man so this perception has been around for quite a long time.

Pedophilia applies specifically to prepubescent girls. 15-17 year olds are not prepubescent. Lolita was 12, the "cuties" are 11.

DSMV classifies pedophilia as individuals with a primary or exclusive sexual interest in prepubescent children aged 13 or younger.

But these classifications don't apply to law. The age of consent is 16 but is extended if the child is still in school till at least 18.

In Australia a 45 yr old male would still go to jail if they slept with a 17 yr old who is still in school.

Yes. And you'll notice that 13 is a lower number than 15-17.

And there is a distinction between "minor" and "child".

You are oversimplifying a complex condition, pedophiles abuse victims from a wide range of ages up to 18 yrs of age.

Medically, after puberty it's not pedophilia.
Of course, it can still be very serious abuse, but that's another matter. Adults can be gravely abused, too.

Nope: not "click-bait".

It was an honest question based around the fact that to a certain segment of the population, something as widely agreed upon in society is considered "right wing", using a published article based on that foundation as an example.

To come up with a similar one "attacking the left", I would need to find a publication with an author making a statement implying that something commonly accepted through society at large was "left wing", although with the political leaning on this site, it would get much less interest than this one suggesting people may be "right wing" unknowingly...

By the way, I have previously made a thread here highlighting the similarities in outcomes desired by the "woke" and "right supremecists", showing how although they have different aims, the end points are remarkably similar.

The thing is, unlike some members here, I'm not chained to a "side" in this...I'm just trying to bring some semblence of balance to discussions. The fact that the population here, in general, is heavily weighted one way makes any attempt at balance stand out and appear to be support for the "other side".

The far right chooses liberty over censorship.
