nice backpedaling.

I wasn't backpedaling. Before I explain, realize that IQ isn't equivalent to intelligence. Some people believe IQ is more closely influenced by education than intelligence. Claiming that members of one race have a lower percentage of college degrees is not racist. It's just a fact. Poor people are more likely to suffer from lead poisoning which is known to lower IQ. If everything is equal, races with higher rates of poverty would have lower IQs due to it being lowered more by lead exposure. Nothing racist about that.

People with an IQ of 100 earn more than people with an IQ of 85 regardless of race. If one group earns less than another group but one group has an average IQ of 100 while the other has an average IQ of 85, it's dishonest to blame it on discrimination without adjusting for IQ since IQ is known to influence income. To make an ethical comparison, you'd have to compare members of each group with the same IQ to see if discrimination is occurring.

Studies show that African-Americans and white Americans with the same IQ have the same income (that's what it means when studies adjust for IQ). That suggests lower income among African-Americans is not due to racism.

Do I understand you correctly:
1. Poor people are more likely to have lower IQ due to environmental factors;
2. People with lower IQ earn less than people with high IQ, (which forms a feedback loop with pt. 1, by the way);
3. In the US, "Black" people are more often poor than "White";
4. In your opinion, it does not need adressing.
Am I correct?

As a non-native English speaker, I wasn't familiar with the saying. A quick search points to this:
https://www.huffpost.com/entry/pull-you ... b7a0e037d4
Quote:
“Pull yourself up by your bootstraps.” It’s a common phrase in American political discourse, particularly present in conservative rhetoric about self-reliance.

The concept is simple: To pull yourself up by your bootstraps means to succeed or elevate yourself without any outside help.

But when you examine this expression and its current meaning, it doesn’t seem to make much sense.

To pull yourself up by your bootstraps is actually physically impossible. In fact, the original meaning of the phrase was more along the lines of “to try to do something completely absurd.”

There are sanitation workers who make more money than post-doctorate researchers.

There are many people with “high IQ” who have relative difficulty making a living.

My original point was simply that differences in income between races aren't due to racism since studies find equal incomes when adjusting for relevant factors known to influence income. IQ was an important factor in those studies but not the only one.

To answer your questions, I'm not a scientist so I don't know all the causes of differences in IQ or how accurately it reflects intelligence. That wasn't part of the point I was trying to make. My last post was intended to explain how my earlier post wasn't racist. I base my beliefs off of what the experts have found in scientific studies. I'll try my best to answer.

1. The last time I checked, researchers found IQ is affected by both genetic and environmental factors (That's their findings, not mine. Whether I personally agree with them isn't relevant to any points I've made).

2. True if you're talking about averages. Some people with an IQ of 80 earn more than those with an IQ of 160 but if you take the average, higher IQ = higher income (at least in the US and probably other capitalist countries, probably not so much in North Korea or Cuba or most countries before technological advancements).

3. Yes, I believe their average income is lower and the percentage in poverty is higher.

4. I'm not sure what you mean by "it". Both races having the same income after adjusting for relevant factors shows that employers aren't being racist by paying people less due to their skin color but that's only one aspect of racism. One could easily argue that differences in education (which is known to affect income) is due to racism. In that case, it may make sense to have Affirmative-Action when it comes to college admissions but not employment.

The main point I want to get across is that if we want to help people and have good policies, it's best to rely on facts and verified data instead of being swept away by emotions. It's popular to blame everything on discrimination and feel good trying to combat it but it leads to bad policies that harm people and treat them unfairly when it's not based on reality.

Then I see your point.
I think the US would generally benefit from improving public education in poverty-stricken areas.

People like to scapegoat issues on whatever "evil" they personally prefer - be it racism, political correctness, socialism, capitalism, religion, atheism or that particular poster on WP ;)
Scapegoating is easier than successfully adressing complex issues.

It’s definitely socioeconomic, rather than racial.

IQ is biased towards folks raised in relatively more affluent economic conditions.

We have socialist politicians all over America now:

I wish Joseph McCarthy were alive today. He'd have these traitors fired, or even send them to jail. Socialism is based on a hypocrisy: promising comfort to the working class, when in reality keeping them down while riding high on the hog yourself. Similarly, these people are pushing the lockdowns onto law-abiding citizens, all in the name of "safety", while giving themselves and the looters free reign.

Socialists are not traitors. On what grounds do you want to jail them? You don't seem to be a supporter of democracy.

The lockdowns: they're applying them selectively. Law-abiding citizens are developing depression and anxiety, losing jobs, losing friendships, and being told they're murderers for wanting to socialize, all in the name of mythical "safety". While looters, rioters, and arsonists are getting full political support and exemption from the lockdowns. Since this is a left-leaning site, I will not argue my point any further.

I'm sure arsonists and looters are not getting political support. What's good for the goose is good for the gander also.

Fortunately the lockdowns here in my own country are at a much lower level now and we're "almost" back to normal except venues can only have 50% capacity and large groups are still not permitted (over 250 indoors and 500 for outdoor events). But we went through a tough few months from the end of March until the end of July.
