The OP was right. There are modern office buildings in Iran that you don't normally notice.

Look in the background of this pic and you will see the modern office buildings.

It looks like they're pulling on women's underwear.

Naughty Shi'as.

Funny, but that image you linked to seems to be in a country other than Iran. And those people look Arab, not Persian.

Very good pictures, Iran actually churns out more mathemeticians and scientists than the U.S. nowadays. On a different note, Iranians as a people are primarily secular, but go through the motions of the Islamic religion to appease the society and restrictive government. Even here in the U.S. I daresay 40% of Christians under the age of 40 are agnostic, don't really know, don't really care, don't really pray(unless they feel greedy or need something), and may go to church to keep up the image to the family\friends. It's just the society we live in. A society where like 1% of us even vote for the freakin president... /sigh. I say stop with our superiority complex we have and stop trying to police the whole freaking world. It'll come back to haunt us...probably soon by my reckoning.

They look pretty persian to me. And besides, if people in foreign countries don't see a bunch of anglos in the picture of an american rally, doesn't mean that it's not america...

That picture is on a website devoted to Lebanon. The green scarves are Hamas; they common in Lebanon and Gaza, but not in Iran. And the people don't look Persian.

Found the original - it is Lebanon, not Iran. That picture is from the 2006 featured photo gallery on http://www.cggl.org/, and it is Lebanon.

If we are having a discussion about what Country A looks like, please do not post pictures of Country C and tell us that it is Country A. That is trollish behavior.

Good sleuth work, Monty!

Here's one for you then. The label is "Eight year old boy in Iran has arm crushed by car for stealing bread".

Iran, not Lebanon. I certainly hope he learned his lesson. :?

I don't condone the anti-Islamic tone of the video, but realize this is the sort of "justice" of which the current regime in Iran wholeheartedly approves.

And I am not a fan of the current government of Iran, or of any fundamentalist/theocratic movement.

So let's bomb them even though it is their own affairs? Last I checked this wasn't the united states of the world police.

I don't agree with such torture. I also don't agree that Iraqi detainees had the right to be tortured by U.S soldiers and Iraqi women raped.

It seems our media likes to make it seem okay to bomb a country because they are easy targets and because of their different way of life

I thought Persian are arabic, Persia is an arabian nation..... That doesn't mean all arabs are Persians though.... Kinda like Swedes are white (mostly) because it's a white nation, however it doesn't mean all white people are Swedish..... Well that's what I had figured anyhow.... Persians aren't arab?

No, Persians are not Arab. Their genetics, language and culture are all different from Arabs. They do tend to share a religion, but then again, Indonesia is Islamic, and Indonesians resemble Arabs even less.

Also, that video of the boy getting his arm crushed is a fake: http://www.snopes.com/photos/gruesome/crushboy.asp

At various times, that video has been alleged to be Iran, Afghanistan, or various other countries. Again, if we are going to have a discussion about a country, is it too much to ask that it be an honest discussion of that country??

The Persians who are descended from the Medes are Japhetic (ie they are the same as Europeans); ones descended from the Elamites are Semetic. Arabs descended from Yaqtan are also Semetic, so there's some grounds for similarities.

Why doesn't Snopes provide any sort of documentation if it's a fake? We're just supposed to take their word for it. Usually they post an external link to further documentation, but not this time. Not buying it...

Fine. You first.
