I personally respect pagans/Wiccans. I've never heard of any Wiccans blowing up buildings for the Goddess, and I've never seen any pagans yelling at me to accept their god or goddess because the end is near.

I sort of agree with this assessment. Theyr more peaceful than most "mainstream" monotheist religions, but I also think this is because they are a wider minority. I just don't like those little here-today-gone-tomorrow fashion trend wiccans, teenage girls who act like their s**t don't stink and convert back to christianity by the time they reach 20. You know, the "hot topic goths" lol.... Hot Topic is like the gap for goths. I mean some things shouldn't be a fashion trend, religion is definately one of them.
I haven't met very many real pagans, as far as the occultic religions and such are concerned, though I have met a very few real ones.... I have met a few hindu's and what not.

i dont hate pagans or wiccans. im guessing most people, (being christian) nowdays see earth worship as satanic so thats why they still see wiccans as people riding around on brooms wearing pointing hats worshiping the devil, its quiet silly really to think that way but most people live in a fog and dont know whats going on today

Pagans don't dance around fires naked regularly, if at all x_x

yes they do
syklad its called
(being naked is meaning you are showing yourself to the God and the Goddess, nothing hiding)

being somewhat of a pagan (trying to find the niche there) I know for a fact that wiccans aren't devil worshipers-christians (cause they are the only ones who scream others are devil worshipers) started that to undermind the pagans, like Cernunnos-he looks an awfully lot like Satan-well that's because christians did that to make people believe paganism is evil
the bible never actually says what the devil looks like in his "true form" we're just so black and white we believe whatever we are told
to me christianity is the dumbest idea ever told to me, and I could never believe it or think its the only way to go
who can rightly say which is the right way
religion is a thing of man!
humans made it
spirituality is a thing to worship rightly with

Because people have been trained to associate paganism with savagery and pre-modernity by Christianity.

I get the impression that most people - outside of the Abrahamic fundamentalist persuasion - who just know the social disposition of things like wicca, witchcraft (which they closely associate), add chaos magic, ceremonial magic systems, or anything to that list tend to see it as the religious equivalent of smoking pot. Essentially they see it as a foolishness that rebellious teens should be perhaps forgiven for, just cuz' their dumb, and like drugs, people bumbling in the darkness of childhood fancy and romance will eventually find themselves and grow up. In that sense they tend to look at adults in this category and shake their heads, assuming they never quite made it out of adolescence. I suppose the understanding that these people carry is that you're supposed to go to church, not because they believe any of its real but because 'adults' are supposed to understand that it's a social structure and that upholding the social structure at the sacrifice of personal whims is the responsible thing to do.

That, at least, is the sort of squishy, headless, semi-agnostic social conservatism that I tend to see more often than not. If I do run into anyone these days who's radical enough in their Christianity to have a lot to say on it these days they're usually fiery evangelicals and so fiery that they're much more preoccupied with chasing Catholics around for being pagans or being what they believe to be the religions of the Antichrist rather than really having neopagans and occultists nearly as much on their radar (obviously if you're a practicing wiccan or even hermeticist you probably wouldn't want to open your mouth around them about it but unless you're decked out in hippy-gear or have some article of jewelry devoted to Mary you'll probably skate past em unscathed).

You have a point there too, as in I'm sure these people see pagans all the time who are private about their faith and don't socially clown the matter.

It reminds of a joke I heard somewhere; "A vegan, and atheist, and a CrossFitter walked into a bar. I only know because they told everyone within two minutes". People like that are where pejoratives and stereotypes come from.

I think the OP is confusing hatred with disagreement.

Goes back to what's in the Bible concerning pagans. People are taught they are evil and God doesn't like worshiping idols or anything besides Christianity, according to Christians who treat the Bible like just another idol themselves and words can become idols if you accept them as a God. An idol is any physical manifestation of the divine you worship, even the word God is considered an idol.

So it goes back to fear and brainwashing. This is why people in these parts dislike Pagans, but not everyone does, just the ones who identify strongly with the Bible.

If you take a look at Moses, when he led the Hebrews out of Egypt and across the Red Sea, he wanted to keep them separate from the idol worshiping cultures they were surrounded by because he saw what such cultures were like and the effect they had on the minds of the ones immersed in them. He didn't want the Hebrews to be just another idol worshiping culture, and he was descended from Levite Priests anyway, so Moses felt he was morally obligated to keep them from transforming into a culture like the Egyptian one they left. This was pretty much the beginning of backlash against idols and pagans.
