that's because "god" gets redefined every time to be something that is more away from science. if this recent study i read turns out to be true, then we'll know what happened before the big bang and so then the theists will then insist that the previous entity was created by "god" too and the cycle of superstition and myth will continue.

Now let's be clear about this. Science redefines itself. God cannot be redefined because He is unknowable. He is mysterious. He transcends. :hmph:

you can't prove what isn't there. saying that it is there, just transcending at the moment is a cop out. "he is unknowable" really??? that's why it appeared to so many people in those myth books and yet none of them ever appear today when a more focused eye of judgment could be on it to verify? you'd think if it would want to save everyone, a reproducible appearance would do the trick. especially today since there is better means of documentation and verification than there ever could have been back when jebus supposedly existed..

science redefines itself as new evidence is produced. god has never existed so it cannot be disproven and changes made are done by the humans who run things like the black pope.

Black pope? The current pontiff, Josef Ratzinger, is German. I'm starting to think you guys are hated & persecuted for being a$$holes and not because of any sexual preference.

Good day!

Darwin believed in God, as did Einstein. Ya know, I should have said this earlier.
Well, I don't disagree with you on many scientists having religious beliefs. A lot of good ones do, and one of the most important evolutionary scientists in history, in fact one of those who set the mode for the modern scientific method, was a devout Christian. However, I'm pretty sure that both Darwin and Einstein, specifically, were either atheists or agnostics. Einstein made some wisecrack about "Spinoza's God," too, which is usually a left-handed way of saying, "if the universe, for what it is, isn't grand or glorious enough for you, I will call it 'God' if it pleases you that I do so." Essentially, Spinozism is a nasty and sarcastic way of saying, "religion is a load of hooey" because a god that is everything is, by this fact, nothing.

Darwin's resignation from Christianity, though, did not have very noble or scholarly reasons behind it. It was led by depression over the death of his daughter. It was no more than a classical loss of faith. Furthermore, his beliefs went through many mutations over the course of his lifetime and were affected by a number of different stressors. He was an agnostic during his later years, true, but this should be no feather in the cap for academically driven skeptics. It was more a product of the man's own emotional cowardice.

In other words "God" is a meaningless term.

On the contrary! "God" is perhaps the most meaningful word in the English language. It's anything but meaningless, especially to those whose lives have been turned around by Him. You should get outside the house and talk to some people about this, get some testimonies. I can guarantee you the results will be interesting.

Ask a priest or church member to tell you about God. It's the human connection that really counts here, more than a connection with books, studies, the Internet, etc. To understand God, first you must understand human beings.

Burden of Proof lies with the one making the positive claim. The classical argument of the celestial teapot. You cannot disprove my claim that there is in fact a very small china teapot in orbit between Mars and Earth, only it's too small for any of our telescopes or other devices to pick up. Is it my burden to back my claim up, or is it yours to prove me wrong?

Burden of Proof is a scientific concept. Religion isn't based on scientific concepts.

Science is a method of thinking, investigating and learning. How could this exist before intelligent life?

Given the size and age of the universe, do you really think humans are the first species anywhere to happen upon the scientific method? Given the sheer size of the cosmos, I would be very suprised and kinda disappointed if human beings were the only intelligent species in existence ... after the big bang.

That's right, but I was talking about what Science is. Physics and chemistry are disciplines that humans developed, nonetheless their principles and laws existed always.
The fabric of reality, space and time, and its rules. Something we are barely scratching, despite all the progress we made.
All those things are probably self conscious, and being the base of all that is, it could very well be considered as a god of some sort.

Well, I am pretty confused about this whole business. See, I thought I learned in biology class that conception, the union of sperm and egg, was the beginning of a new individual, but since then I have been told that that is not the case. I am not sure what it is you get when you merge human sperm with a human egg, but it is certainly not a human, it is not a life, it is not a person, maybe it is just a bunch of cells that if you leave it alone for nine months somehow then turns into a person, but I am not sure of anything like that any more. So maybe none of us are really humans or persons or alive.
