ok, I guess that wasn't fair. .

I see it as a legitimate/good choice for some because the more honest versions of it often mesh better with an empirical/existentialist worldview than many faiths; there is a great deal of room and potential for expressing and living the things one actually believes, rather than pressure to believe or profess things that one does not actually believe.

These are but a few reasons. . . I suppose, on top of this, the most compelling ones seem to be that
--many people feel most spiritual and closest to their idea of God when communing with the earth
and
--peganism offers a framework for integrating meaningful symbolism, ritual, and community of faith into one's life without requiring. . . well pretty much anything (in general, although specific pegan paths may be quite demanding), and therefore without demanding participation in the things that may be found harmful about various other forms of religous practise.

My spell checker rejects both pagan and pegan, and major neo-pegan writers use both spellings.

your spell checkers ret*d. and ive never seen any neo-pagan author use the spelling "pegan" though i have seen people use that spelling mistake online before, normally by people who don't know much about paganism.

im not overly familiar with wicca myself, wicca started in the mid 20th century, and despite its "pagan theme" isn't really considered a pagan religion among most pagans. wicca has a strong sense of duality which isnt shared with pagan religions and concentrates more on the gods than on the spirit world and astrology as pagan beliefs do. some wiccan teachings that ive heard seem to have more in common with ancient Indian teachings then European ones (such as the "3 fold law for example")

wicca also places alot of importance on genders whilst historic accounts show that the Celts had little or no concept of gender roles within their cultures and were infact actually discriminated against for this by both ancient Roman and Greek scholars.

i forgot to note that i was specifically referring to British paganism/Druidism beliefs. pagan is an umbrella term, some pagans follow ancient Egyptian beliefs or Norse beliefs etc.

im not sure but i think pagan beliefs that are devoid of god worship are classed as "shamanism" i literally just remembered this term whilst typing. the term isn't commonly used when dealing with European beliefs for some strange reason unknown to me :S

Mystic wicks is an ok pagan/ wicca forum, although I must say there are a lot of people there who will bash you for saying something they don't believe in . I like wicca / paganism because it has no limits especially wicca. In wicca you can worship anything from the Greek god and goddesses to the tree in your back yard. It is a religion in which you are free to take your own path , they give you a place to start and you can take that path where ever it may lead you. I love paganism because of the earth aspect .

I consider myself a green witch everything I do is earth based. I love the forests and I love the ocean . I am most at peace when I am in a very old untouched forest. You can just feel the life energy all around you its so amazing! I love The way in wicca they accept both aspects of deity's man and a woman . Normally one would call them lady or lord, I prefer to see a man as a god and the woman the creator of the tree of life . (Google tree of life if you want to know about it. ) One thing a newby would NEED to know if they would be doing spells and rituals is that you need to make sure you are following the wiccan reed. It boils down to (do what ye will but harm none.) As for love spells you can't cast on on a person, that would force them against there will and be against the wiccan reed. But if you cast a spell to find love that is ok. And also if your calling a certain deity make sure you know what there about or you you could be getting yourself into trouble .

The same goes for herbs , crystals , colors and the way you do the spell. Look into the 3 times 3 law, exc . I learned about that the hard way. I would say the best way to learn is through books and the internet , and double check your sources to makes sure there not talking crap.

You can also work from your instincts if you know enough about what your doing . But make sure you know how to avoid the thing that could get you or someone else hurt , as alway be safe . :D

though it bears mentioning that among pagan* possibilities, Wicca is often considered. . . one of the most structured options. The Catholics of the pagan world, as it were.

I think if you aren't working from your instincts at some basic level, even when following someone else's instructions, it's all sort of meaningless. .

Also, nice post, just-me.

*sorry, anyone who believed me: I was wrong on the spelling thing. I'd thought I'd looked it up before. . . ah well. That's what you get for trusting weirdos off the internet. . .

I am curious as to why you believe wicca is more structured then paganism. I may be seeing it from a different view point then you. I say it is less structured because you can choose which gods to worship and what type of path your going to take ex, you can be an earth based witch or one that works with Egyptian things, or perhaps you could be into native American magic. I may be unaware of a certain aspect of wicca in which you are talking about . If I am please enlighten me I am always happy to learn new things

I agree 100% with that post. I think your intuition should guide you but I just don't want someone new to get them selves bad karma
for doing something that could come back 3 times as bad.

I say the best thing to do is learn the rules follow them then do what you like from there. "Do what ye will and harm none. "

wicca is a religion centred around doctrines written (or discovered, if you believe his words) by Gerald Gardner.

your thinking of the so called "Eclectic Wiccans" who do not believe that any doctrine or traditional initiation is necessary in order to practice Wicca and therefore are basically spiritualists whose views tend to revolve around nature to some extent and who have label them selfs as wiccan just to have something to call them self's. "Eclectic Wiccans" are more spiritualist or new age then they are wiccan.

Don't forget that Gerald Gardner was greatly influenced by Aleister Crowely, who I think to this day is greatly misunderstood by the masses. It was only after becoming a Theistic Satanist (on the advice of my guardian Daemon) that I could make sense of his works.

Hmm :? I guess I need to learn more about wicca because I don't really know what your talking about .
Like I said in a previous post I am always willing to learn new things. So if you know of any books or web sits about this particular subject, perhaps you could point me in the right direction. :D thanks a bunch!

A couple of favorites:

http://www.amazon.com/Spiral-Dance-Rebi ... 0062516329

http://www.amazon.com/Drawing-Down-Moon ... 014019536X

Also, witchvox really is quite good.

(amazon links because they include text excerpts, back covers, etc. Both books are classics and much about them can be found elsewhere online.)

Yes, because we all are aware of how faith is validated by scripture.
