This is why I am convinced that anyone who watches South Park is liberal.

Could I get more of a complete thought on this?

Even though South Park is designed to be a social commentary, many socially conservative people take offense to the language used on the show (even though co-creator Matt Stone is a Republican himself).

that's because they get hung up on the wrong stuff rather than actually taking the piece as a whole it's the typical definition of obscenity and its abuse. there was even a show that appealed to social conservatives. all the parents in town went atheist after all the priests were found to be child molesters and through a series of events they end up talking about atheism and whenever they do, they spew feces out of their mouths. how much more christian-friendly can you get than a direct shot at atheists like that?

Language, like anytihng else, can be corrupted. Ebonics, I think, is just a degradation of English. Pretty soon it won't even be comparable to English at all. As a connoseur of words and langauge, the slow death of verbal morality is particularly worrisome.

South Park would not be so funny if everything else were equally dirty and potty-mouthed. George Carlin would not have been nearly as successful as a comedian if every other standup act in the business was irreverant & potty-mouthed.

Yeah, profanity is funny if used correctly. Too much of it just leaves a sh*tty taste in your mouth.

It's too bad you're not a connoisseur of linguistics or you'd know that "degrading" a language is meaningless.

Words have no intrinsic meaning. The word c**t is cognate with queen, and s**t with science.

a little too advanced of a thought for slow mutant. should spell out the second part more and not worry about the first part (after all, his personally taking offense to something is more important than the fact and history of linguistics).

I feel that Ebonics and other dialects, in which the case is corrupting English to any degree, still have a place in their vernacular and informal habitats, and in relevant dialogue in literature. Provided they're used in a vocabulary open to growth, and are generally separate from formal and official communication, they are perfectly acceptable and indeed have character.

Anyway, in a bit. I'm offt' pub.

The fact of the matter is that this restraint on a good cluster of words in our language is an oppression, and people keeping them in this status are absolute f***ing twats.

One day, you'll get a job, go college. Then you'l know better.

I was doing a shift today, and college starts in a week.

Anything else?

Yeah, you're a bit young for college.

It just seems to be the ultimate leitmotif of my life whenever I release an opinion from my mouth—I'm teenage, and just need to grow up a little, as of course, only then can reason give me even but a passing glance. My irremediable idealism and liberal views will be put in their pace, and only then will I begin to live in the real world.

there's a decent bit of truth to it...but the way slowmutant uses the idea is wrong.

To me, watching South Park is what I imagine watching porn would be like, but without the social stigma attached to it.

I'm just saying that in terms of romantic relationships, South Park is a way to let people know that I am liberal (and looking for someone who is liberal) without people thinking that I am just looking for sex.

I can't be with somebody who is wanting to abstain until marriage, though.

In other words, asking somebody if she likes South Park is a polite way of asking if she believes in premarital sex.
