You're frightened of what you don't understand, and that's OK.
not really. i understand it quite well. it's faux christians treating their religion like as if it's witchcraft that can grant them whatever they want.
seeing as how all the man made religions are man made, this base level of delusion scares me. it's on the same level as some goth loser chanting a wiccan incantation to get him whatever he wants.
your religion isn't supposed to be treated like witchcraft and it's made clear in your own book...though i don't know the passages off the top of my head...basically you serve the lord, he doesn't serve you. that's one thing i at least respect muslims on, they treat their religion as how it is, they're always saying "allah willing". they are definitely the servants of their religion.

You're not in a position to criticize how other people worship. It's not up to you to pronounce this as delusion, that as not-delusion. Just remember that whatever you say is just an opinion.

You can say what you want on Pentacostals, endorse Islam for all I care, but I hope your suggesting that Fox News has some extreme Christian lean. The commentators, the show hosts, the panels, all they do is just espouse the secular aspects of conservatism and yes, from my own years of watching, they are pragmatists with it; what will work in Washington, what won't, and I suppose they can't help the fact that many conservatives are religious on the side (on the other hand they are tapping a highly un-catered-to market which is very wise and which offers enough counterpoints to CNN, MSNBC, NBC, and ABC that hopefully it'll help weed out the chaff on the more liberal channels - ie. make them a little easier to listen to; its already shown its effect on guys like Keith Olbermann). I'd actually like to see more channels like them crop up because, it encourages 'creative destruction' (yes, Schumpeter) in the journalism rather than keeping around the same idiots.
FOX News. This is all I have to say about it:

they set up the rules, i'm just pointing out that they're not following them.
remember, you pray to your lord, not to your servant.

LOL @ them
Lern2hygiene
The sadder part is that Michelle Malkin, a national Fuxx News anchor, waves the ol' stars and bars herself despite being a Filipina. Remember when she referred to Michelle Obama as "Barack Obama's baby mama"?

The Bubbas are alive and well. I'm not sure they even realize the South lost.

You'd have credibility if you were a believer yourself. All this coming from a non-believer is just insulting.

Why am I not in a position to criticize such blather? It wasn't long ago that one large fringe denomination published a map of an entire state by zip code of what percent of people were going to be saved based on their phone polling data. Guess what? Catholics and Lutherans and Methodists and other mainstream Protestant denominations weren't included in the 'saved' category. Nor were the Orthodox Christians.
Pentecostals rant like loons and attack like wolves, and you expect me to smile and identify with them, because they profess to be Christian? Sorry, it doesn't work that way. They make an industry of rejecting my religious traditions, and I have no respect or affinity with them.
Quote:
How could Pentecostalism be God's true church if it only started 100 years ago in Los Angeles? (106 years ago if you count Kansas) Had Christians been all wrong for 1900 years before that? 2. With all the tall tales Pentecostals have been telling for 100 years about divine healings and prophecies, why hasn't there been ONE shred of evidence for a single Pentecostal healing or fulfilled Pentecostal prophecy? 3. What do you think about the reams of scientific evidence that so-called "tongues" is just a self-induced psychosis, with no more relation to real language than that of a belch or fart? 4. How can you claim your gibberish has any relation to Biblical tongues, when the Bible is quite clear that tongues were an obviously_miraculous_language which enabled its recipients to speak to foreigners in their own languages? 5. Can you deny that Pentecostalism is really just the WWF of religion?
Cany you deny that Pentecostalism is really just the WWF of religions?

What is your religious tradition, monty? Please don't say Pastafarianism. >.<
As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I was raised Episcopal. At this time, I would consider myself more of a Deist along the lines of Thomas Jefferson and a perennial philosopher along the lines of Huxley. Others in my family are Lutheran, Presbyterian, Eastern Orthodox, and Catholic.

I go to a Pentecostal church and thankfully none of them are like that. Although once I heard some woman say "If you don't speak in tongues, then you're not a born-again Christian". To say I was sickened would be an understatement.

And how have you been persecuted by the Pentacostals?
I don't have a persecution complex and don't claim to have been persecuted by that group. I did mention in another thread that I was once with my brother (who was in a wheel chair with a untreatable, progressive and fatal disease), and we were told by a Pentecostal that my brother could be healed and walk if he were to read a particular passage in the Bible and have faith - that was merely deeply offensive and disgusting, not persecution.
In most conversations I have had with Pentecostals, they don't seem to believe in the concept of separating church and state. They yammer on about how the words "separation of church and state" don't appear in the US Constitution - which is true, but irrelevant. If they believe that it is ok for government to fund religious programs, or to use the police power of the state to enforce religious laws, then I think they are for establishment of state religion and against my freedom of religion.
Do you need a litany of points where Pentecostalism has diverged from mainstream Protestant Christianity, often in dangerous ways (shepherding movement and psychological manipulation, Dominion theology, speaking in tongues, creationism, status of women, "Annointing", the belief that ordinary events are caused by demons, opposition to birth control, millenialism, fake miracles, false prophecies, the fear of brimstone and hell fire, etc etc). Bottom line is that I don't think that group of people have their heads screwed on straight and that we should be really cautious about the possibility that the nuclear launch codes might end up under their control.
But enough critical thought - here's a light-hearted account of unusual behavioral phenomena: One person reminisces about his Pentecostal youth.
