Believing in something that can't be proven to exist is irrational behavior, which is something I despise.

Why is it any less irrational to be convinced that something does not exist when it can not be proven not to?

You're trying the old "If it can't be proven to not exist, then it must therefore exist" fallacy.

Not at all. By your logic, you tried to hang me and failed.

Amen, Brother! Amen!

I also find it irritating when unintelligent, ignorant people claim that I must be more stupid than they are for not adhering to their "outlandish, outdated superstitions."

Fnord, you never went to a seminary, did you?

You're hardly the type.

Yes, I went to the Seminary ... wasted two good years of my life persuing fallacious knowledge and the myth of spiritual enlightenment.

A degree that enables honest and gainful employment is ever so much more gratifying.

Because whether or not you are a member of that religion, society and all its social diktats are based upon and come from religion. Its the way that religion imposes on everything and everyone else that I particularly despise. Oh and the fact it closes minds.

It also has caused more wars than anything else...

The kind of thing anti-Semites like to say about Jews.

Wanting a thing to be true does not make it true. Instead of saying religion has caused x number of bad things, why not tell us how why atheists are good people. A simple disbelief in God does not ennoble, nor does a simple belief to the contrary. A person's character, his words and deeds, are what should be considered.

I do not claim to be a good person as a result of my religious convictions.

Why? Why waste all that time?

Why? Why waste all that time?

Because for the first half of my life, I thought that there was something to it. Once I actually started examining religion, I began to see it as one huge and elaborate role-playing game that focusses on political intrigue, judgmentalism, and self-righteousness; the latter of which seems to be based solely on having a "special" relationship with God - a relationship that can not be proven, but that must instead be accepted on faith by others.

And if that was not consistent with who you are, so be it. Not everyone was born to believe, much less join the clergy.
