So, what do you think?

None that have actually met me, and the mental-health professional who made my "Aspie" diagnosis and told me in these exact words: "You are most certainly NOT insane!" also happens to be an Atheist.

I think it has to do with the more rational and less judgmental approach to non-normal behavior that Atheists seem to have and that Religionists seem to lack.

I don't know what that person meant and am not defending his choice of words. Certainly the dude was rude to use you as an example while you were there in the room. But here is a thought:

You seem to be using the word 'insane' in an imprecise way, and it is loaded with emotional content. Mental illness, mental infirmity, and biological personality types all cover much more ground than insanity. Someone could be depressed, anxious, compulsive, or Aspie without being insane; and these could all be classified as personality types (and by most laymen as mental illnesses or conditions). Maybe the person who made the comments was trying to attribute specific behaviors to physical explanations instead of choices - I don't know.

So, he's become a prideful dolt. You'll find them everywhere, especially in elected positions.
