That strikes me as bad planning, indeed.

The basic rule of tax is that it never hurts you to earn an extra dollar. If you were blithely spending gross revenue without taking into account the tax implications, then it's no wonder that you had to dip into savings when the bill came due.

But if you make provision for tax with every dollar that comes in, then there will never be a surprise come tax time.

Bill, its okay. I hate that you have to pay taxes, too! :thumright:

As of yet, I don't have to pay any income tax. But Romney and other righties figure I and other poor Americans should, while the rich get tax cuts.

I honestly don't see how you can interpret what he said as LUCK. You're envying someone for making less than you. That's what you're saying, you realize?

The 'lucky you' part was rhetorical.

It may be that simple in Canada, but not here in the US.

Short version is, I got a large Christmas bonus. My company usually doesn't give Christmas bonuses, so I hadn't taken that into account. If it hadn't been for that bonus, I wouldn't have bumped up a bracket and would have been fine. Ironic thing is the increase in tax liability was waaaaaay more than the bonus that caused it. I'd have been better off if I hadn't gotten the bonus.

I keep telling you taxation is theft, but you don't listen carefully enough.

You don't want to eliminate the theft. You only want to change the victims.

No, I'm not against taxation - if it doesn't do harm to those being taxed. The wealthy can afford to be taxed, whereas I and other poor sons-of-bitches can't. If I had more money, I would in fact pay my share - because I would be able to. No theft there.

if you're a rich american you are largely above the law, 'cept for the occasional crumbs [leona and martha] that the establishment throws at the hoi polloi to keep 'em mollified somewhat. but if you are not rich, there is plenty of hard and strict law to beware of.

You don't understand the concept of taxes, and then wonder why everyone looks at you funny whenever you state your opinion.

That's what you get for mugging someone who has a gun.

Actually, the way a lot of people interpret this law is that they can approach someone with a gun, start a fight, and shoot them if they fight back.

I've heard this term used by resident's of Michigan's Upper Peninsula to describe denizens of the Lower Peninsula: "Tr***s" because they live "under the bridge."

Then a lot of people are wrong, many of them willfully so.
