I would ban hospitals gouging patients in the manner of charging 10 bucks for a cotton ball or an aspirin tablet.

I think you should have to pay to see the doctor here in the UK (perhaps a refundable deposit). It doesn't need to be a lot of money, but enough to stop people taking the piss out of the system by not turning up.

^ I think if Farage got his way, we'd be paying thousands of pounds to the likes of Aviva and Legal and General, never mind a tenner or whatever to see the local quack.

As noted earlier this week, PYUPV is not a debate thread; if this continues to be ignored, posts may be removed to reset the thread back to its purpose.

Could you not put these debate points into a new thread?

I believe in socialism, but I don't believe that socialism means "gimme free stuff."

I believe that socialism means hard work. That everyone who can contribute, does contribute. That means, if you have debilitating PTSD, you will be given therapy for as long as it takes and we will find you a job you can do, but you will do it. If you have Aspergers, we will put your special interest to work and not expect you to be highly social, but you will learn not to be an ass and you will work. If you have classical profound autism and intellectual disability and all you can do is sort pencils for the school house, you will sort pencils.

You will work, I will work, and the mayor and the governor and the president and God himself will work right beside us.

And in exchange for that?? You will have leisure time. You will have a warm home and a warm bed. You will have healthy, nutritious food. You will have medical care. If you are as profoundly affected by CP as my cousin and all you can do is writhe in a wheelchair and grunt until someone guesses what you need, your needs will be met until you die a natural death in God's time. If your needs or abilities change, your work will change to meet them-- but you will work. In exchange for your work, you will always have enough. You will have companionship, and value, and enough.

But a big-screen TV, a sports car, the latest video game equipment, all the dope you can smoke, caviar and champagne, a diet of Cheetos and Pepsi... These things are not part of "enough." These things are called "luxury." Find a legitimate way to get it yourself, or learn to find joy without it.

How about non-profit to low-profit not only in health care but also in education (up to the first proper vocational training diploma or the univerity at least) and - that is the most revolutionary point - the military?

Eliminate jet airliners.

Replace jet airliners with solar powered luxury zeppelins.

Helium for lift of course, not combustible hydrogen like the Hindenberg.

It would cut down on pollution, and oil consumption. And the reduction of speed (from 600 down to 100 mph) would be compensated for by the elimination of security at airports. No one would hijack a blimp because ramming a blimp into a skyscraper would be like ramming it with a nerf ball. So there would be no need for all of this post 9-11 hassling.

There's one significant problem with that; you're going to need a LOT of helium, and helium is a really scarce commodity nowadays. Plus, most of the helium that's currently being used is for liquid cooling MRI imaging systems.

If elected, The Rump will make every American citizen believe in a "survival of the fittest" atmosphere that he will create for the US, regardless of how Americans will react.

there are many people right here on WP who are into that "survival of the fittest/sink or swim" meme.

The crazy, outside-the-mainstream religious beliefs of political candidates should be fair game.
