The "Black Hole" of woke....
I have a hard time remembering names as it is so pronouns are just off the table for me.
A lot of NTs and many folk on this forum think using the r-word is trivial. I was watching a documentary where people impacted by slurs whether abelist/racist or misogynist experience the slur in their brain like getting hit in the face in public.
I was so impacted by that I realise I probably have been accidentally misogynist and probably need to personally grow myslef
I have short term memory problems and always have, are you seriously expecting me to "grow" out of them?
I'm dyslexic and once I know the meaning of a word, it sticks and is hard to change. Learning new pronouns will also be difficult.
If I don't are you seriously implying my inability to have a good memory makes me on par to being a racist or misogynist?
Shhhhhhhh.
Doesn't sound very inclusive to me or the elderly who might be oblivious to all of this.
Speaking of elderly, I was on Twitter and someone wrote an ignorant commemt saying you never forget your family members even with Dementia. This was false and total ableist so i wrote "my grandma with it couldn't remember either of us family members nor knew who we were."
Seriously, how does a illness or a disability somehow make you invincible to certain things? Never forget your family members even if you get that disease, seriously?

Most people are capable of remembering all sorts of things, including pronouns.
Key word, "Most"
I’m only saying that people should make an effort.

My husband is dyslexic and brain damage so he has a hard time with direction and how to spell things and he gets numbers mixed up too. He can't remember phone numbers either nor math problems so he always has to count.

I don't disagree, but since Covid, I've noticed a lot of people have adopted a self-absorbed & self-centred attitude (not accusing Nades of this)

I do think Nades is being sincere when he says pronouns are hard to remember because of his disability. Yes you can still try and make an effort but I have experienced people getting impatient with me for not learning fast enough or misunderstanding my questions I'm asking as me not listening because I'm trying to learn and make an effort and I am trying to be sure I do remember the steps and I am not talking about pronouns here.
Even ASD people get impatient with me and it's come to a point where I don't want to make an effort anymore if it will just piss people off for even trying. No one can see inside my brain so they assume I am doing it on purpose.
One thing I have learned in the autism community is even people on the spectrum won't always understand me if they don't have the same issues I have when it comes to learning and processing things. This is a human thing than an NT thing to not understand someone different than them.

You really don't need to worry about the elderly. Society tends to be very tolerant of the elderly that haven't caught on to recent social changes, provided they don't act hatefully while doing so. People are usually smart enough to realize there is no ill intention behind the actions of someone elderly, and take it as it is on its face. As a woman, I have a lot of experience seeing the different actions and reactions between men and women depending upon age and life stage. When a ninety year client calls me sweetheart and kisses me on the check, it is very different than if a 30 year old did it. People are usually aware that each grew up in a very different culture with very different expectations, and instinctively look more broadly to get a hint of the person's character.

Shhhhhhhh.
I think that instead of reacting defensively and negatively when discussions of correct pronoun use come up, you head off future issues by being upfront with how hard it is for you. Tell them you recognize their right to their choice of pronoun, and then apologize that because of your unique brain make up you don't feel you will be able to remember it, and hope they can accept the mistakes you suspect are inevitable. The key is that you've recognized their right to their identity right off, and hopefully that softens them to future misuse, so they don't jump to conclusions when the inevitable happens.
As has been pointed out in this thread, intent is important here. Failing to use pronouns correctly because of memory issues is going to taken differently than failing to use them because you think the concept is silly.

Being a guy that struggles to learn virtually anything and everything along with finding social interactions awkward and my preference to similarly, I'm just not interested in adopting yet another layer of complexity to interactions.
This is due pretty much entirely to disability. That and pronouns are a viscous enough hot topic online, why would I want to partake in anything relating to it in person?

I'm not willing to preemptively apologize for a disability I have. They can get as offended as they like.
If I'm expected to make an apology for having disabilities then I'll probably end up treating them with contempt.

There is a reason I am on SSDI. I piss people off with my learning and how I process things and there are not enough patient people out there so I am the one with a disability.
And when people get frustrated with me, I start having anxiety and then it's even harder for me to learn and i tend to shut down and i do worse.

I don't resist pronouns, I am saying I will have a hard time remembering them if they don't look the gender they identify as. It will take me longer to remember and all I need is reminders of their pronoun. It takes zero efforts to correct someone or to wear a pronoun tag on your shirt if it's that important. Apparently i am not trying hard enough.
But then again, I am not most people.

My mom loves to pretend I'm "normal" and my problems are by other people. She told me my boss at the Hilton was just an a**hole. All that did was make me feel I am her snowflake and I can do no wrong and it's other people with the problem and not me. She basically said most people out there are a**holes when my boss was acting normal because he expected me to be like an NT. If he was truly an a**hole, I wouldn't be on disability. If most people had patience for me and made extra efforts for me, I wouldn't have a disability. I've accepted not everyone is going to understand and I am not always going to understand so don't even bother trying, it's why I have a disability. Instead I would rather read stuff online and listen to YouTube stuff. I can't piss people off this way.
