That, entirely, is the problem. Too many people here see the first version rather than the realistic second version. Every empire has its day... even if you accept that having an empire is a good thing.

For now, I'm am seeing a new post-brexit modern Raab version of our future draft economy with new open doors.

I really hope Raab does not become the next PM. I'd rather have Boris in No.10 than him!

I am no fan of Johnson but yeah, agree with that. Raab & McVey are in their very own category of batsh*t politics.

McVey is the only one with principles.

Anyone who seeks to attack the disabled and poor as she does has no principles. Like a lot of Tories she's of a sociopathic bent.

Labour hold on to Peterborough 8O 8O

Brexit Party were very heavy favourites to win. Quite a shock that they have managed to lose out on that. It appeared absolutely on a plate for them.

and true to form:
"Nigel Farage, the Brexit party leader, left the count through a backdoor just minutes before the result was announced."

Labour did a good job getting their core vote out. They had hundreds of activists from all over the country visiting the area in the weeks leading up to the by-election. The Guardian has a good write-up of it on their site.

As for the Brexit Party, they were hit by the Conservative vote holding up better than expected. Had they decided not to campaign, the Brexit Party would have won comfortably.
This split in the right-wing vote helped Labour here.

Anyone who voted for Labour or the Tories are dumb beyond words.

As always it's a complicated picture. The Brexit Party gave out leaflets encouraging Remain voters to vote Lib Dem, so the traditional Labour vote split too - the Lib Dems went from 3% in 2017 to 12%.

Calling somebody "dumb beyond words" because of the way they vote is against WrongPlanet rules. Please do not do it.

I didn't personally attack anyone.
