The BBC article mentioned that both Kwarteng and Truss were actively pushing the government's recent economic plan, which seems to have been at the heart of the recent political and economic turmoil in the UK.

So why did only Kwarteng step down? If Truss remains as PM, and perhaps even announces another policy U-turn, shouldn't she and Kwarteng be able to sink or swim together?

He was sacked - he was asked to "step aside".
Now we have Jeremy Hunt as chancellor - and probably her successor.

Yeah, I was a bit confused. The BBC article said that he was "sacked" and "dismissed", but that he was also "standing down".
I didn't know what to make of it.

His sacking is not enough. They are both a disaster, leaving far too much of their "fiscal event" unfunded - she's going to have to go too:

Thanks for correcting the Beeb's muddled story.
I suppose it's a moot point, the main thing being that he's under the bus, but I'm an incorrigible stickler for detail. I often wish I wasn't.

I can hardly wait for Liz to go under the bus too. Barring a miracle, it's going to happen pretty soon. And the Tories' suicidal divisions are now wide open for all to see. Voters don't like parties that aren't unified. Good. What happens to the UK while its leaders are squabbling is another matter, though. Problem is, I don't see how anybody is ever going to fix the broken economy. Hang on, does the royal family have enough money to pay off the national debt?

Jeremy Hunt stepping in as Chancellor is his way of getting to be Prime Minister. He's wanted this all along. He is FAR more dangerous than Liz Truss or any of the current government ministers!

Is it generally thought she'll be a short lived PM?

She does rather seem like a public high school girl let loose in a lab and trying various formulas, most of them resulting in smelly bangs!

I'm not in the UK but have been trying to keep abreast wirh what seems weirder than fiction.

You don't get a probationary period with this. It's not a youth training scheme or a f*****g paper round.

Sadly true. Truss is just an inept idiot, but Hunt has focus.
