Why is racism encouraged in christianity?
The alphabet's Latin, from Greece, ultimately derived from Semitic abjads.
Edit: though I'd guess under the influence of Sumerian writing, ultimately, as given the relative paucity of completely independently developed writing systems in the world, it seems most parsimonious to view other developments in the middle east as being inspired from one source.

Athenian democracy bore only a vague resemblance to the modern liberal democracies.
But we do owe a great deal of our cultural heritage to the Greeks.
In Athens there were only 6000 males who were eligible for civic service, i.e. they could service on juries (composed of about 500 individuals) and courts for deciding cases. They were chosen primarily by lot, which is much better than the charade we go through in the U.S. every two and four years. Two thirds of the population had no rights. It was composed of women, slaves and foreign gast arbeiten. In a word, Athens bore little resemblance to our (so-called) republic.
In addition there were three pro-Spartan putches in which tyrants ruled Athens with an iron hand. These were eventually overthrown by largely middle class commercial interests. Plato was ideologically disposed toward these pro-Spartan cliques and his -Republic- is really a pro-Spartan anti democratic screed. Aristotle, who disagreed with Plato on some things was tolerant of slavery. He also was dead wrong on nearly all of his physical theories. Greek philosophy has been of limited use to us moderns. The greatest service that Greek philosophy has rendered was to introduce natural explanations for phenomena and to do away with the gods as explanatory causes. In a way, the Fundies who believe God-Did-It are a throwback to pre-Ionian superstition.

How about putting the question this way:
Why are racists encouraged to be Christians?

So was Newton. And almost certainly so will Einstein as soon as we understand a bit more about physics.
Wrong theories are a part of how science works -- and the Greeks managed to measure the circumference of the earth to a pretty good accuracy.
I'm not sure that any kind of philosophy has ever been much use to anyone.
No, the greatest service of Greek philosophy was to be philosophy at all. The same goes for Greek mathematics. Euclid doesn't use modern standards of proof, but it is abstract in a way that the Egyptian and Babylonian thumb rules never were.

I am thoroughly impressed with your inherent capability to dismiss Einstein. Genius such as yours is truly a rare phenomenon.

Not quite. We still use Newton's theories as though they were correct- sure, he was actually "wrong," but he was damn close, close enough that we can pretend he was right and it'll work. Aristotle was just completely and totally wrong. And Einstein may have been wrong about one issue or other, but he definitely advanced our knowledge of physics considerably. In contrast, Aristotle did nothing to advance our knowledge on physics- in fact, he held us back for centuries.

It is already known that General Theory of Relativity breaks down within black holes. None of our theories work in the near vicinity of a singularity.
This is quite a bit different from the case of Aristotle whose ideas were false right on the face. Any ten year old Greek kid could disprove Aristotle by dropping a one pound rock and and ten pound rock from the same height. They would hit the ground at the same time. Furthermore Aristotle's explanation of falling was falsified by the an arrow leaving the bow string. If Aristotle were right the arrow would drop straight down as soon as it lost contact with the bow string. Such is not the case.
It took advanced techology to show that Newton and Einstein were wrong. Even so, Newtonian physics is a good first order approximation where speeds are very small compared to the speed of light. We still use celestial mechanics based on Newton's law of gravitation to guide our rockets and missiles.

I didn't dismiss Einstein any more that I dismissed Newton. My point was that getting your theory refuted down the line somewhere doesn't mean your contribution was meaningless.

I think if a racist became a true Christian, they would stop being a racist.
However... another way of phrasing the question could be, "why do so many racists labour under the misapprehension that their beliefs are justified by Christianity?"
Answer... they're thick! And they haven't studied the Bible.
It's not racism that it encouraged by Christianity. It's much worse: the myth of shared morality....which is merely a parody of sociological truths but perverted in the most intolerant and destructive way possible.
It just so happens that much of the BS morality espoused by Christianity lends itself to class war against the lower classes which are normally mostly occupied by minorities due to various historical social reasons as to why they've been knocked down and kept down. The racism is more a result of this delusion of shared morality and idea that morality without a basis in reality is still legitimate. Cases in point: pre-marital sex, war on drugs, war on alcohol, "pro-life", war on pornography, war on obscenity in the media. All of which are dealt with in a roundly absolutist fascin (read: fashion) that winds up creating more poverty, crime, sickness, unwanted pregnancy, abandoned children, overpopulation, and a perverse aversion toward sex while being entirely enamored with violence.
This also creates an air of intolerance toward those who don't fall into this set of moral guidelines and instead of looking to repair the greater problems, merely looks to follow its own prescribed solutions which means more intolerance and declaring that their way be the only way to correct what's wrong.
It's a problem with most of the major religions. They worry about getting their conversions and numbers and getting their own set of moral laws out rather than adapting to modern technology and modern ideals and actually working toward reasonable solutions.

Case in point from a personal angle: I'm obviously not the biggest fan of Christianity. HOWEVER, whenever I have come across an alcoholic or drug user who is clean and who is talking about god as their means of salvation from being a user, I play along with them because it's worked for them and the absolute last thing I would ever want to do is to take away from them their positive change with such a hard fight as with substance abuse.

What a bizarre rant.
