I leave that decision up to the mother /other adults. You make that decision for them
That's apples to oranges. Punishment vs Who to allocate resources to.
I'm not indifferent to life in general. I simply realize that infanticide has the effect of improving the QUALITY of life while reducing the QUANITY.
This statement is self-contradicting.
As I've stated previously, a fetus is'nt worth naerly as much as an adult. An adult has had 20+ years woth od resources invested in them!
This isn't a religious argument in my mind. Good morality after all, descends from pratical concerns, NOT from arbitrary statements.

A lot of people say the mother has the right to choose because a fetus is part of her body, etc...
A fetus is not a part of a woman's body. A fetus needs her mom to develop, but it's a separate human being. Also, I have the feeling that you're judging a life's value for the investment made on it. Life is life, and is worthy by itself, regardless of the investment made or not made in it, and christianity has nothing to do with it. I don't like children (much less fetuses), but me not liking them or not caring about them does not mean it's right to kill them.
For me, abortion is alright if made before the time the fetus has a heart or a brain, in other words, when it's still just an egg, not already a being forming inside of the woman. I think if the woman wants to abort, she has to make her decision soon enough instead of waiting to be four or five months pregnant to have the abortion. Abortion should be legal, but regulated by time.
If a woman is raped, she can always get the day-after pill. Contraception in the first place, abortion in extreme cases and soon enough. And the kid having Down's syndrome or another disability (including autism spectrum) is not an excuse either. Parents may say "oh, they will suffer, is better for them to die"... Lies! of course people with disabilities or diseases will have to struggle more than other people, but there are plenty of people with disabilities who are happy, or let's say, as happy as people without disabilities and as contributing to society as any other person. A lot of those "compassionate people" are really people who feel those kids will be a burden to them and the life they were having before.
How do I delete a wiener?
I prefer to call my philosophy "Compasionate Cruelty" (as opposed to "Kindness that Kills")
except "kindness that kills" implies that the fetus is alive in the way that you or i am alive....which is completely wrong and such wording gives more support to those who claim that it's wrong.
but hey, christians need the breeders....if they had abortions, you'd have only a few poor, uneducated people* instead of a a whole slew of poor people who have to rely on god because condoms, pills, and abortions weren't allowed. and if you want to go farther into it, you could also look at the sociological stance of how keeping abortions illegal would help keep the poor people poor and basically make a larger divide between the classes.
*yeah, i know...not everyone who is christians is poor or uneducated....most of them are brainwashed either from birth, by their surroundings or by stimuli that they can only comprehend as supernatural by either lacking facilities logically or the strength psychologically.*
**a cold analysis, i know....but it's true. kinda like that hawk that eats the little ducklings in my pond every morning....cold fact....but it's there.

I did'nt mean that litteraly ska ,

Is anger a trait of AS?
Many of the statements here are so far off my experiences in life. I am old now, and have had many experiences that have changed the way I view many issues - I have found that my college idealism was just that - a beautiful idea!
I know abortion is wrong because I know and love people who have had them. God believers or not - they feel guilt either because they are fully aware of what they did, or because they don't feel guilty. It changes them & every one I know that has experienced this would go back and do it differently. I liked the comment, joke about abortion, because it would never happen but provokes a good thinking opportunity.
Killing an infant that has committed no crime seems quite different to me than killing someone who knowingly & willingly killed someone else & is proud of it. I don't know if I'm for or against capital punishment - I think unjust murder is evil.
As for the current war - should we just sit back and knowingly let people (any people) be abused, raped, tortured? If you knew people who had seen their 5 year old daughter raped in front of you because you didn't agree with Bush - would you sit there and let it happen? Justice - talk about what you've experienced - and then give your opinion. I'm very curious.

How is it that christians (along with everyone else) practiced infantacide all the way up to the end of the 19th century and it was considered O.K. and ethical then. Did god suddenly change his mind or something?? Why don't christians acknowlege their former position on the abortion issue?? It's downright Orwellian!!

I don't personally know of any Christian's that have practiced infantacide in my lifetime. I do know some Christians and NonChristians who have had abortions. Have you had an abortion? Just because someone in history who claimed to be a Christian committed infantacide does not make all Christians think it is ok - .
Why would I, or anyone, acknowledge a former belief I do not have? Do you acknowledge everything that anyone related to you in anyway claims or did? I doubt it.
Do you believe in God?
If so, why are you so angry?
I'll be the first to say some Christian's are the meanest people I know (but it seems you might fit in well with the ones who constantly judge me - I don't even know what Orwellian means)
Infantacide was common practice through out the entire human race since the dawn of time. Babies with Downs Syndrome and other birth defects along with hermaphrodites were/are routinely killed right after birth.
I did'nt mean you, I meant Christianity in general. Christian teaching has 'evolved' through out the years and every time it changes, Christians don't acknowledge the change. They act like they have always believed the same things and they have'nt. Christian teaching 'evolves' everytime society 'evolves'.
If so, why are you so angry?
I don't believe in the god of the bible. If I seem angry, It's because I was forced by my parents to believe in god for 18 years.
Orwellian= pertaining to themes in George Orwell's books. Generally speaking, taken to mean a Tyranical, despotic government that brain washes, lies to and brutally opresses it's people.
In the book 1984, the government is in a perpetual state of re-writng history to reflect current ideas. Christians do the same thing with their teachings.

I see that you are speaking about Christianity in general terms - not specifically about me. Thank goodness.
I tend to speak in detailed personal terms - so - I'm glad to clear that up.
I am a preacher's wife - and I'm sad to say - I totally understand why you would not like "Christian's" as a group. Weird huh?! I am finding out that many "Christian's" must not read the same Bible I do or that I'm going to have to admit I'm crazy. I find grace and love and acceptance - not judgement and rules and Christian Coilition mandates. And I am so not perfect - that I would never try and convince someone to believe my way.
I'm sorry your parent's forced you to do anything - I'm a parent and it is not as easy as I expected.
Orwellian - I'm afraid my possible AS prevents this from happening to me. I just don't seem to understand things the way the masses do. But like the great German philosopher said, "People are stupid." I kind of like that statement because if the masses are stupid - that means I'm not. I guess that's my ID coming out or just wishful thinking.

I suppose Jack Kevorkian is one of your heroes, along with Attilla the Hun?
Seriously, if you hate that your Christian parents "forced" you to believe in Christianity, (which is impossible since no one can make you believe or disbelieve something), why not take it out on them, not every other christian? You and I have communicated on this board quite a bit in a friendly way. Do you like me? I am a christian. Do you throw me in with the lot of "stupid, brainwashed Christians" that you so despise? I hope not, because that would really suck.

I do not mean to answer for Scrapheap, and I do not know you Bland so this is only a general comment, it is not about you specifically, altho' I will say "you" for convenience.
Although you are not a free thinker in regards to your religion or spirituality, it is possible that you have other redeeming aspects that make you worth talking to.
Cold but true.
I have read the whole thread and have noticed some interesting things. I am for allowing a woman to be the sole decision-maker in whether or not she will have a child. It is her body and it is her life. I don't believe that we should punish two people for a minor indiscretion. Society doesn't need the drain on society. A woman can decide for herself and doesn't need religious zealots and male politicians to make a life-changing decision for her.
For those who equate abortion with religion and are against it because of their religion (Christianity) my feeling is this: Is your faith in your god so precarious and near the breaking point that knowing women out there can get an abortion that it threatens your faith? Shouldn’t you have such faith in your god that people having an abortion does not affect you? Wouldn’t your god continue to look kindly down on you? Why are you worried about what other people do with their bodies? What does it have to do with you? Is your religious life so dull that you must stick your righteous nose in other people’s indiscretions?
I am an unmarried, single, 25 year old woman that knows that if I had ever had a child; my life would not be nearly as productive today. I know that I would be a drain on society and my child would not have the opportunities that it would have if I had planned for him/her. I would not be able to have the life and the job that I have now. I would not only have the baggage of Asperger’s, but also the baggage of an unplanned pregnancy. A mistake in my past should not have life-long consequences if I can help it. I don’t want to take anyone down with me, because that’s where I would have gone. Right down…and with a helpless, innocent child. Is that fair to the child? No. It is better to remove six-week old cells than go on welfare. That’s just my opinion.
As far as the death penalty goes, I live in Texas, and although it is a very republican state, and I’m totally democrat, I am for the death penalty. It’s cheaper for the state to do off with them than keep them locked up, fed, cleaned, safe, and supervised for the rest of their lives. It’s an economics thing, not morality as far as I’m concerned.
