Why are many atheists only anti-Christian?

It also doesn't help that this board is all either christian or Atheist**. I'm sure I'd have more "why in the world would you want to hook up with 72 LARPers*" type cracks if there were muslims here.

I'm anti-religion in general, but I am most familiar with Christianity having been one at a point in my life. Why? Because my family forced that upon me in my youth, and it wasn't until I became a teenager and in college when I finally rejected it.

I have little experience with Islam, not much knowledge, and don't know too many Muslims personally. Most of the Muslims I know are fine people, but the religion itself is remarkably wicked and violent just like Christianity and others.

In the United States, Christianity is the predominant religion, so a majority of U.S. atheists come from that background. They may be willing to speak out for the rights of minority religions, though, as an indirect way of defending their own freedom to be not religious.

I'm against the Catholic Church as takes money without tax from people and the Pope has reinstated Priests that have molested children and the organisation has kept promising to do something about it for years, but hasn't.

I'm not against believing in something with no evidence to back it up except a book that recursively provides 'evidence'.

Above all that, I'm angered at parents only explaining their religion to their young children who have no sense of right or wrong and not giving them a choice of other religions or no belief at all. It can be considered almost brainwashing from my point of view.

I have noticed that people use the term "bigot" to describe anyone who isn't a left-wing radical.

that is because anything less than a left wing radical is too aproving of the swathe of destruction the capitalists are tearing across the world

I dislike the way athiesm is being tarnished by the moderate's of religious groups that we are all like Christopher Hitchins or Richard Dawkins in terms of having raw hatred for anything religious fluffy or superstitious. And we foam at the mouth hoping one day to lock all of you up who believe in fairy's, jesus and supernatural fluffy stuff.

Fundamentally most athiests are secularist in their outlook. As in so long as no one religious group have an automatic right to weild a disproportionate influence on the state were all fine and dandy.

If you want a solution to extremist religious groups then it is fundamentally speaking the moderate groups who inadvertantly (or sometimes purposefully) provide the support and base for such groups to operate. It's time to clean up your own houses so the rest of us can have our planet back.

Are these the same capitalists that brought to you the steam engine, the electrical generator and the computer?

Well that is obviously not true and you are seriously over exaggerating. It just so happens that many on the very far-right are bigoted in some manner and don't like anyone that isn't a white, conservative, rich christian. I'm sure there are some that wish they lived in the days when africans sat on the back of buses and teachers were arrested for not teaching dark age fairytales in science lessons.

I realize that not everyone thinks like that. But I was accused of being a "white supremacist" for being a Republican, when I would never dream of being racist.

Prejudice comes from both ends of the political spectrum.
