Yeah, I'm a bit amazed this thread didn't have first page replies that it might be a completely different DSM-IV condition all together: not existing.

The Principle of Embarrassment was invoked as a defense of the probability of a "historical Jesus's" existence in the OP.

The what of what? You'll have to explain this one a bit better - canned thinking and postulates are kind of a foreign animal to me.

The Principle of Embarrassment phase in the OP is a hyperlink to the article.

I actually do not believe Jesus existed and this was more of a Biblical analysis here than anything else.

Whenever a Jesus-related question is posted, I replace His name with the name of a known fictional character, and see if the question is still relevant...

"Was Charlie Brown Bipolar or Schizophrenic?"

This has a way of removing the emotional content from the question, and enabling a more lucid analysis of the question itself. Then, knowing that the character is fictional, I ask myself, "Why are there only two choices?"

The only answer that makes sense within the context of my question is, "The OP is trying to impose a negative image on the subject of his post". This means that the OP is trying to impose a consensus that JC could only have been either Bipolar or Schizophrenic, and not the Son of God.

Ergo, the OP seems to have the hidden agenda of removing all thought of divinity from the image of Jesus Christ, and replacing it with the image of an ordinary man afflicted with a mental illness.

Possibly, but then some people would say that is something good for all of mankind ...

... and so blows the wind.

Well... there are four. Jesus was bipolar, but not schizophrenic. Jesus was schizophrenic but not bipolar. Jesus was both. Jesus was neither. In any case, yes, the OP is trying to suggest something negative about Jesus.

Not really surprising.....

All par for the course here in PPR!

And the OP leaves out the possiblity that Jesus actually was the son of God, and the miracles mentioned in the bible actually happened.

So if these events actually happened we're looking at an individual that:
could cause a storm to cease
walk on water
call fish into fishermen's nets
bring people back from the dead
heal lepracy
could feed the masses with just a little food
actually rose from the dead himself 8O

And that's just to name a few items, if these things happened, then quite frankly I seriously doubt Jesus was suffering from any mental affliction.

In my [polite] atheist days, I had a discussion with a Christian friend pointing out inconsistencies in speech and behavior reported for friend Josh. She was very indignant.

The record does not let paradoxes be ignored or swept under the table. The existence in fact helps the good record apologists, since we have had centuries to clean up his act. There, is, however, another explanation.

If we accept - I do - you do not need to - isights from Enneagrammatic analysis we know - experience confirms - if we observe someone radically typologically different from us we see what seem to us to be irrational and inconsistent speech / thought / behavior. Ask almost anyone who knows me. Given my understanding of the Nazarene's enneatype, he winds up different from everybody - so our seeing him as inconsistent is predictable.

I will spare you the full lecture.

Bear in mind - a lot of our psychodiagnosis derives from analyst of enneatype A observing subject of enneatype B, so he might well have had someone diagnose him formally - as many clearly did informally.

It seems he did cry over people crying over Lazarus, and he did once "sweat great drops of blood" (something any human being actually could experience), but I suspect virtually nobody ever ends up on the shrink's couch over those kinds of things.

Overall, here is one of my own "miracle favorites" from Scripture ...

"... When they (the 'taught ones') had rowed about five or six kilometres, they saw YahuShua walking on the sea and coming near the boat ...
"And He said to them, 'It is I ...'
"They wished therefore to take Him into the boat, and at once the boat was at the land where they were going.
"On the next day, the crowd ... saw that there was no other boat there except that one into which His taught ones had entered, and that YahuShua had not entered the boat with His taught ones (on the other side where they had all first been) ..."
(John 6:19-22)

Pretty cool.

Jesus Christ was psychologically disturbed. That's a given.

Nah. Most Christians just misrepresent him.

He never claimed to be "God", and he did the things he did without ever taking the credit or selling tickets or drawing attention to himself ...

... but then maybe some of us who try to do the same are "psychologically disturbed" also?

Nah, that is what I used to be.
