Inferences based upon past behavior are justifiable. That's how psychologists can judge mental states, and if they couldn't what would be the use of a lot of their efforts? I mean, we can't act as if mental states are a black box.

When my stepdad had been sending my to psychologists to "find out what's wrong with him so he can be a ward of the court" I would talk about weapons with them. You ought to have seen how the anti-gun kooks phased out while trying to hide their reactions. :twisted: As long as they're looking for problems, why not give them some?

All one can observe are acts and results (they are external facts).. One cannot observe intentions.

Ok, but if internal facts are sketchy, then the internal observor might not actually be better off, or at least not much better off compared to an external observor.
