As you say, "ideal" systems do not work in the crappy real world, so we have to make the best of what we've got, and capitalism gives us that. It's really quite simple. And yes, people are very greedy and selfish. It's how we survived evolution.

Well why does the real world have to be crappy? Of course people are going to end up unhappy about it and I can certainly understand why. What is it capitalism gives me that nothing else would? because I am not seeing it. Also I dont see how evolution is comparable to capitalism.......in evolution I am pretty sure those who went off alone and tried to survive where much more likely to die then those who stayed in groups. humans aren't meant to be in constant conflict with each other...I mean what other species regularly kills members of its own kind?

Alright well I would think humans with all their supposed intelligence would be beyond that...and that does not answer why the real world has to be crappy.

Whining...your constant, incessant whining is what makes it so crappy. Now go find something productive to do, the interwebs tire of you!

I think anyone who believes that the Occupy movements have failed to achieve anything is taking a very blinkered view.

First and foremost, we are talking. Our political discourse is increasingly focussed on income and wealth disparity. In the United States there is a significant degree of discussion about the corruption of the political process through corporate speech, corporate donations to campaigns and the influence of soft money. There is, perhaps even moreso than in 2008, the potential to rally the electorate around meaningful electoral change.

Even more importantly, this possibility arises on both sides of the political divide. Progressives and Tea Party members might not see eye to eye on the proper role of government, but they can certainly find common cause in eroding corporate interests' ability to affect decision making. No one seriously believes that Hank Paulson would ever have let Goldman Sachs collapse--and that offends both sides, equally (even if it is for different reasons).

In this country we see the government moving to severely restrict campaign borrowing, other than on commercial terms. (We banned corporate and union donations years ago and put firm caps on personal donation). While there is some complaint that this disproportionately benefits the ruling party, there is little complaint that this is the right direction for us to go to maintain a barrier between moneyed interests and electoral politics.

The Occupy movements may be chaotic, disorganized and inarticulate. But we are talking about them and about what the 99% means.

What I want to know is, why are the real issues not being looked at?

Why is it I don't resort to personal insults here, yet I get attacked with personal insults?.....thanks for the mood boost dude. I guess everyone should take a vote and if most people feel life on wrong planet would be better off without me then I guess I'll leave as I don't want to overstay my welcome or anything.

You're taking things way out of context in an attempt to personally insult me, I don't feel that is really nessisary. I asked why it has to be crappy when another poster agreed that capitalism is a crappy system. Because I am trying to argue there could be other ways besides capitalism.....but if you're here to insult I imagine you don't care what the context of my comment was.

I would like to change my answer. It's not your whining; it's your lack of a sense of humor. That's why the world is so crappy.

It is true that in heaven there is no marriage because it is an obsolete institution. But in heaven the quest is rather for infinite love. But on Earth nobody gives a damn about anyone else so at least with marriage the children will be provided for.

Let me interpret a bit before this gets angry.
JWC was just kidding about your whining -only funny if you got it- I don't think anyone meant any harm.
My NT wife just got into one of these with an NT facebook friend.
My strategy if someone says something I don't understand is to assume it was some kinda joke.
does not always work but it is better than getting mad.

No, I wasn't completely kidding about the whining; but I meant it in more of a tough love way. Sometimes you just gotta 'man up' and live your life. The world can be a f**ked up place. There is no 'solution' to murder, starvation or poverty; these things will always happen to some degree. There will always be winners and there will always be losers. Competition is a good thing. Eliminating competition can't make everyone winners, in fact, it makes everyone losers. Without competition everyone loses the benefit of the products created by the competitively inspired mind. More than, money or power; the greatest men among us are motivated by glory. Remove competition and you remove winners. So, my kind suggestion to you is to not focus on what we humans do as a species; instead focus on what you do and can do as an individual to win as much as you can and not be one more loser who just quit playing the game.

so your solution, when you think she is whining, is to post something nasty?

i think you need some tough love here, yourself:

knock it off as she is as entitled to wishing the world would change as you are to your delusions that the proper path in life is always competitive.

Sorry, I thought you might have been nice.
The winners and losers stuff is actually bad (as in weak poorly thought out) Darwinism.
Because collusion or "cheating" is another way to win the evolutionary game.
I am going to use the language of volition a common thing when spit-balling evo-ideas
of course the actual means of change is selective transmition of mutations of long periods of time
Wolves when they found themselves out paced by the ungulants instead of getting faster (the route cheetahs took)
started to cheat by hunting in packs. cooperation is a evolutionary strategy.
Market forces causing bad labor conditions and poor wages in your industry? Form a union.
Middle men gouging you your raw materials collude with their suppliers? To cut them out.
Can not make widgets as fast as you can sell them? form a company and hire some folks to help.
Cooperation is an Evolutionary Strategy.

Ok and all I was doing here was standing up for my opinions.....I don't understand how thats not 'manning up' and living my life, I am unhappy with some of the things going on in this country and the world so I support the idea of protesting about it. I don't really agree with the way or society is set up so I'm saying something about it.

So think what you want but I dont see expressing disagreement with how society is set up, and liking the idea of protesting as whining I see it as using freedom of speech.

If refusing to play that disgusting game makes me a loser so be it, even if I wanted to play the game I doubt I could anyways damned if I do damned if I don't I guess. I don't expect everyone to agree with me but lets not assume because I have a different opinion than maybe the majority here have its some sort of flaw in my thinking. I am not into winning as much as I can at the expense of others and I doubt I ever will be.
