Still, just about the whole thing could be considered private property and private contracts with owners voluntarily creating libertarian conditions for others to participate in. The island corporation would have something of a state-like feel to it although it would technically be considered a private corporation. The fact that a state power is delegated to it (enforcement) gives it the feel of acting on behalf of the state in enforcement circumstances. Its board of directors could feel like a clubby oligarchy.

No problem with any of that as long as resident can leave when he wishes to leave. In fact the corporation would be well advised to provide transit to any discontent when request. A one way boat trip of Liberty Island to a destination of his choice or a destination that is feasible.

It is an interesting concept and I am not talking about the political side but rather the self sufficiency aspect. For a small group that bands together to live a peaceful self sufficient life a collection of boat "modules" as such that can be added to or subtracted as others join and leave of their own freewill it is definitely appealing to me. I have been moving more and more to a self sufficient lifestyle the older I get and i have seen small communities mannage the transition and work quite well together.

I love the idea of libertarians having their own countries, but why bother to build new land when y'all could just move to Somalia?

(I'm kidding)

Still, the thought of the kind of human rights abuses that could take place in a small country with no real government makes my blood run cold.
