Why did Christian Europeans hate Jews?

If you really want to know the truth, Luther would laugh out loud over what you wrote, as he had a very earth sense of humor.
And Luther had ended up in the leadership position because he had taken one for the team, and got excommunicated, though he was hardly the only German theologian at the time speaking out against Rome.

He was the fearless leader of the anti-church Freikorps. A kind of religious Brown Shirt movement.
I was wrong about one thing. He shat on the gates of the Wirtenberg Cathedral. He was tried at Wurms.

Isn't the city spelled "Worms"? (it would be pronounced "vorms" since it's German)

I think you know as well as I do that the early Protestants were nothing like the Freikorps or the Brown Shirts. As a matter of fact, the church of Rome (not meaning to offend any Catholics here) had done much more in the centuries before and after Luther to persecute Jews. In fact, before Luther began having erratic thoughts and behavior in his later years, he had come to the defense of Jews, writing how the Jews didn't deserve the violence the church had committed against them. And as I had already stated, Luther never put his hateful writings about Jews into action. But I'm sure you're aware of all that.

True enough. His hate filled writing encouraged others to do so. What a miserable person he was!

Luther's wife and friends did their part to suppress the old man's hate filled writings, which were for the most part dug up by the Nazis many centuries later. So basically, the Nazis used Luther's Antisemitic writings to try to justify their policies, but they can hardly be credited with inspiring the Nazis' Antisemitism - despite what some poorly researched literature critical of Luther may claim.

Was it because of their brown skin? The fact they didn't accept Christ? The materialism prevalent in Jewish culture? Jealousy of their success? Their autonomy from their host civilizations? All of the above? For no reason?
Any time you have a group of outsiders moving into a new area, the opportunity for tensions between the two groups to develop exist.
The two groups often to not understand nor identify with each other.
The original group may object to the presence of the new group due to availability of resources, perceived or not.
The original group may resent success of the new group if they prosper when members of the original group do not.
The groups may have significant cultural differences that contribute to tensions.
The new group may fail to assimilate, and actively exclude the original group, or be excluded by the original group.
The groups may inherently mistrust each other, leading to rumors and pre-emptive tactics.
All of these things contributed to ant-semitism. The roma (gypsies) in Europe experience similar prejudice and hatred, as did mennonite immigrants in Russia. One element that existed for the jews that didn't for the other two groups was the fact that they weren't christian, and were often blamed for the death of Jesus. However this was just a weak excuse for already existingnegative sentiments, as christians believe Jesus had to die for their sins.
