Why is it that usually republicans do not want pot legal?

It is mainly illegal becuse the government can't put a tax on it, much less control the imports/exports. If this doesn't help anybody in any way, please disregard it. :?

It is mainly illegal because of a smear campaign. It was thought that hemp could be used for newspaper. And there was also the racist reasoning for why it should be illegal (haven't looked into that as much to be able to explain it).

As did the ladies of the WCTU believed in the Demon Rum. There are two kinds of people; those who will accept a modicum of insobriety and those who won't. As long as people do not drive drunk or operate dangerous machinery while incapacitated I could really not care less how smashed they get in the privacy of their homes.
